A sequel to the hit 2008 horror movie Cloverfield is officially in the works!
While there have been two additional “Cloverfield universe” movies released in recent years, neither of those movies were direct sequels to the original film.
The original Cloverfield was released in 2008 and earned $172 million worldwide on a budget of $25 million. 10 Cloverfield Lane, released in 2016, was also a hit with $110 million worldwide. 2018′s The Cloverfield Paradox took place in space and was a Netflix original.
The first Cloverfield movie was a found-footage film that followed a group of young New Yorkers as they tried to survive an attack from a giant monster.
JJ Abrams and his Bad Robot production company will be producing the new Cloverfield movie and British writer Joe Barton has been hired to write the screenplay. THR reports that the sequel will not be in the found-footage style.
