Bradley Walsh has hinted that he plans to retire in the next few years after more than a decade as host of The Chase.
The TV quizmaster, 61, has shared how he became one of the most favoured game show hosts on our screens after working non-stop over his 40-year career in showbiz.
The father-of-two, who recently revealed his secret health condition that changes the way he looks, joked that the reason he wants to take a step back from TV is because of his busy lifestyle ahead of his new BBC1 game show Take Off alongside Holly Willoughby.
He warned fans on the podcast Sliding Doors that he is almost ready to turn his back on his TV career to spend more time with his family.
He said: “You know what, in a couple of years time I won’t have to do any of it, I’ll be retired and that’ll be it.”
Although his quizmaster role on the show may make it seem like he is “on your screen all the time," it's really down to a well organised schedule.
Throughout the year, Bradley shared how he works on 210 episodes of The Chase, 16 episodes of Celebrity Chases and 16 episodes of Beat The Chase each year.
Despite the climbing number of episodes of the ITV daytime favourite, the doting dad only spends 86 days recording the year’s series.
The TV star, who grew up in a council house in Watford, said the secret to his success is by playing to his strengths which saw him grown from a footballer, to a Coronation Street star to a TV presenter.
He explained: “Here’s the trick of doing stuff you can get away with, you’ve got to be brutally honest with yourself. If you don’t get it you can’t sell it.”
For this reason, the actor and TV presenter has turned down the opportunity to take part in the celebrity dance competition Strictly Come Dancing countless times throughout his career.
He added: “I’ve been asked a couple of times to go on Strictly. But I’m not a dancer. I don’t even think I’m a good dad dancer. I’m a bad dad dancer, which makes things even worse.”
But the family man, whose son has joined him in the cast for the reboot of the Darling Buds of May, is looking forward to taking a break from his hectic TV and enjoying time with his friends and family instead.
