BBC Breakfast host Dan Walker took to social media this morning following the announcement that Sally Nugent is to be the new regular presenter on the show. She will host the breakfast programme from Monday to Wednesday with the Strictly Come Dancing 2021 star, replacing Louise Minchin, who left the show last month after almost two decades.

Dan told fans that he was looking forward to “many happy years” with his new co-host.

He wrote on Instagram: “I am so happy for @sallynugenttv. She is the new PERMANENT @bbcbreakfast presenter.

“She is a brilliant on TV, massively popular with the team, an excellent journalist and a great friend.

“Hopefully we’ll have many happy years on the #BBCBreakfast sofa together.

Oh… and she’s coming to #Strictly this weekend,” he added, in view of his 234,000 followers.

Sally said she was “thrilled” to be joining the team.

Following the news the 50-year-old TV star said: “I’m absolutely thrilled to become the new presenter of BBC Breakfast and bring the nation the latest news, top entertainment guests and stories that matter every week.

“It’s an honour to take the reins from Louise and be part of the UK’s most watched breakfast show.”
