Led Zeppelin bassist John Paul Jones has formed a new band called Sons of Chipotle with Finnish cellist Anssi Karttunen.
“It is incredibly rare to find two of the finest musicians in the world performing in such an intimate setting for what will be a series of remarkable concerts,” says a note on Jones’ website. “Both musicians are known to be curious minds, always ready to learn and to discover.”
“When they improvise, borders disappear, they are free to migrate beyond prejudices, across continents,” the note adds. “In a world where walls are being built and people are told where they cannot go, Sons of Chipotle want music to be a place of openness.”
The band will make its Japanese debut performance in Tokyo at the Pit Inn, Shinjuku, on September 3, followed by another show on September 5.
There will be two performances per day at The Pit Inn featuring Jones on piano and Karttunen on cello.
Sons of Chipotle will be joined by two guest artists – Otomo Yoshihide and Jim O’Rourke.
Tickets for the Tokyo shows go on sale July 28 at 10 am Japan time.
