GMB: Kate Garraway says she feels ‘low’ since Christmas

Lorraine Kelly, 61, has branded her ITV colleague Kate Garraway, 53, the “bravest woman she knows” after the Good Morning Britain presenter announced news about her latest project. The presenter praised Kate after she shared details about her “raw and intimate” book about her husband Derek Draper’s ongoing health battle, after he contracted COVID-19.

Kate’s other half has been in hospital since March last year after coronavirus led to further health complications, including holes in his lungs and diabetes.

In her new novel, The Power of Hope, the mum-of-two said she will “share the raw and emotional story” of her husband’s “long fight” against the virus.

Following Kate’s announcement, Lorraine retweeted her post in view of her 625,000 Twitter followers and insisted her book “will help so many” who are also struggling during the pandemic.

She penned: “Bravest woman I know.

Kate’s post read: “Hello everyone – I’ve not been on here for a while as I’ve been taking time to gather myself and focus like everyone else on getting through this latest lockdown.

“The pandemic is far from over and so is Derek’s journey but I have decided to share our story and what’s helping to keep me going, as we all try to work out what our new futures will look like. 

“I hope that it will help you with all that you are going through.

Fans took to the comments section of Lorraine’s post, joining her in supporting Kate.

One person wrote: “Just pre-ordered mine the courage and strength Kate shows day to day is quite overwhelming – I pray that Derek is home with you all soon.”

Another added: “Incredible woman is Kate Garraway -total love and respect for her and the family for what they are dealing with each day.”

A third fan commented: “Keep strong Kate – while there’s life there’s hope!”

This morning, Kate appeared on GMB and gave hosts Susanna Reid and Piers Morgan an update on her husband’s condition.

She admitted: “It’s been a strange time. I’ve been a bit low since Christmas.

“Kind go physically low and sort of feel physically at the end of my tether.

“This week a friend of mine’s mother-in-law, who’s 51 so younger than me, died from Covid.”

While welling up with tears, Kate added: “She got it at Christmas and she went down very quickly and died.

“I can’t believe here we are so far on Derek’s still ravaged form the effects of Covid from way back in March.

“His recovery his incredibly certain. I’m trying to look for new thing and new ways and things I can do for him.”

“Meanwhile, people are still dying in extraordinary numbers and it’s just unbearable.”
