Michael J Fox, 62, has been an advocate for Parkinson’s since he was first diagnosed at the age of 29, launching the Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research in 2000.

The former Hollywood star has now been pictured arriving at Ed Sheeran’s The Talkhouse gig in New York in a wheelchair.

He went for a casual ensemble in jeans, a blue patterned shirt and trainers while accessorizing with a pair of black shades.

The Back to the Future star has previously admitted he has to use a walking stick, frame or wheelchair when he goes to certain places, but that doesn’t mean he’s happy about it.

Speaking to The Irish Times, Michael shared the “frustrating and isolating” experience of having to use a wheelchair.

He said: “It can be a frustrating and isolating experience, allowing someone else to determine the direction I’m going and the rate of speed I can travel. The pusher is in charge.

“Generally the person in control is a stranger, an airport or hotel employee. I’m sure that if we could look each other in the eye, we’d recognize our mutual humanity.

“But often in the wheelchair, I’m luggage. I’m not expected to say much. Just sit still… No one listens to luggage.”

Michael also has said how he struggles with some simple day-to-day activities, including going out for dinner with his loved ones.

The Teen Wolf star is married to Tracy Pollan and they share son Sam, 34, twin daughters Aquinnah and Schuyler, 28, and youngest Esmé, 21.

He told CBS News: “I have a wheelchair that I use every now and then and it still sucks. I have a hard time getting to a restaurant and up the stairs to where my family’s eating, perhaps at a dinner.

“But then I’m there with my son and my three daughters and my wife, and friends of ours. And it’s just like, that’s great.”

This comes as the Back to the Future cast reunited, with Christopher Lloyd, who played Doc Brown, sharing an adorable snapshot of him and his former co-stars from the 1985 classic film.

In the shot, Michael J Fox embraces Thomas Wilson, who played the movie’s villain Biff Tannen. In the corner, Lea Thompson, who played the mother of Fox’s Marty McFly, embraces Lloyd.

They captioned the Twitter post: “Can we get 88k likes? The past says so…” The post has so far reached over 250,000 likes.

Michael regularly talks to the media about his 30-year battle with Parkinson’s, admitting to CBS that it gets “harder” every day.

He said: “I’m not gonna lie. It’s gettin’ hard, it’s gettin’ harder. It’s gettin’ tougher. Every day it’s tougher.”
