BBC Breakfast host Mike Bushell, 54, was partnered with Katya Jones, 31, on Strictly Come Dancing back in 2019. The broadcaster and Latin champion have developed a close friendship since competing on the BBC show together.

The Russian-born dancer recently revealed her latest move away from Strictly as she teamed up with Joanne Clifton and Sasha Latoya for the trio’s brand new book titled 7 Days to Find Your Fire Beyond Lockdown Empire.

Katya held a meet and greet session for fans in North Greenwich yesterday, where fans got the opportunity to pick up a signed copy of the book.

Her celebrity dance partner Mike has since taken to Instagram to issue an apology for not being able to attend the event.

Taking to his Instagram story, the sports presenter shared a snap of the book where he posted a sweet message to Katya.

In view of his 21,600 followers, Mike penned: “Brilliant partner. So sorry I couldn’t make the book launch but it looks like it went well. And a great book.”

His post comes after Katya took to her own Instagram story to share snippets from the meet and greet.

Last week, the BBC favourite shared details of her book launch in view of her 160,000 followers.

Katya wrote: “I can’t quite believe I’m saying it! But OUR BLE BOOK goes on sale tomorrow! We are so proud of all our success stories! MEET AND GREET BOOK SIGNING, MONDAY 20th JULY. 12-1pm. River Gardens Café, North Greenwich.”(sic)

Mike was set through his paces when he was partnered with Katya on Strictly last year.

The father-of-three previously credited the professional dancer for helping to fix his posture through their intense dance training.

Speaking about the health benefits of Strictly, Mike explained to Metro.co.uk: “Yes [Katya helped my posture].

“People keep commenting on that or saying that their wives or partners have been on at them to try to improve their posture.”

He added: “It makes such a difference once you engage that muscle in the back and clench it. You feel taller and it has so many benefits.

“My mum has nagged me for years not to slouch and she can’t believe she no longer has to.”

Mike made it to the week eight of Strictly and just missed out on performing at Blackpool.

Meanwhile, Katya recently hinted there may be some changes to the BBC show following the coronavirus pandemic.

As the Government is slowly relaxing England’s lockdown restrictions, they have announced certain measures must still be adhered to.

“Obviously everybody is just waiting to hear what’s going to happen,” she told FUBAR Radio of the 2020 series fate.

“But I think the nation needs some sparkles of Strictly!”

She added: “I think we’ll need to wait and hear how the rules are going to change further on because we normally start at the end of July/beginning of August, so things might drastically change of course with the social distancing and things like that.”

Strictly Come Dancing is expected to return to BBC One in October.

BBC Breakfast airs daily on BBC One at 6am.
