Meghan Markle, 39, and Prince Harry, 39, sat down for a landmark interview with Oprah Winfrey, 67, back in March. The award-winning interviewer has now opened up on the conversation, and what they told her before they sat down to talk.

Meghan and Harry’s interview with Oprah contained some huge bombshells about their time in the Royal Family.

Some watching the interview would have been curious to know how much of it was planned before it was filmed.

Now Oprah has cleared this up during a meditative look back at the chat.

She explained: “Whenever I’m doing interviews with anybody for anything that is significant, I have a conversation with them before.

“I didn’t see Harry and Meghan before but I did text them and say intention is very important to me, tell me what your intention is, so that we can be aligned in our goal.

“And our shared intention was the truth.

“They wanted to be able to tell their story and tell it in such a way that allowed them to be as truthful as possible.”

The broadcaster was speaking during an interview with Nancy O’Dell on talkshoplive.

She continued: “The reason why it was such a powerful interview, first of all, I know how to ask questions, and you [Nancy] know how to ask questions, we all know how to do our jobs.

“But what makes it powerful is when you have someone else who is willing to be as open, as vulnerable, as truthful, as they were.

“So, I don’t give myself credit for that, I give myself credit for asking the questions.

“But the reason the interview was what it was, was because they answered the way they did.”

During Meghan and Harry’s interview with Oprah back on March 8, the pair spoke openly about stepping away from the Royal Family.

Meghan, in particular, shared how her mental health had been impacted, speaking about a time when she had suicidal thoughts.

As well as this, she spoke about how a member of the Royal Family has queried how dark their son Archie Harrison’s skin colour was going to be.

The couple also revealed they were having a baby girl as Meghan is expecting her second child.

The Royal Family did respond to their allegations in a statement from Buckingham Palace at the time.

This read: “The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan.

“The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning. While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately.”

Oprah, in her talk with Nancy, revealed she was “surprised” by Meghan and Harry’s comments.

She added: “I’m like, ‘What? You’re going there? You’re going all the way there’, about her thoughts at the time.”

The presenter continued: “I had no idea that it would have the reverberating impact it has had and continues to have. I did a lot of preparation for that.”
