Brenda Edwards, 52, made a passionate point during a discussion about whether ‘Freedom day’ set for June 21 should be delayed, as the Indian variant continues to spread across the UK. As the panellist had her say, Penny Lancaster, 50, could be heard repeatedly calling her name before telling her to “calm down”.

During today’s Loose Women episode, panellists Ruth Langsford, Penny, Brenda and Gloria Hunniford discussed Covid-19 passports and whether they should be introduced on June 21.

The discussion split the panel, with Brenda saying a prolonged lockdown could damage the hospitality and entertainment industry again and criticised the Government for opening the borders before June 21.

She said: “If anything, what they should have done is wait until the 21st of June and then see how the data is with other things that are in our country opening up before you start sending people to fly here, there and everywhere.

As the former X Factor star continued to give her opinion, Penny tried to interrupt by repeating Brenda’s name.

But continuing with her point, Brenda continued: “You can’t have any control over people quarantining when they come back so…

“What is there? An Indian variant, an Australian variant, this variant.”

Finally getting her attention, Penny said: “Brenda, Brenda, Brenda, calm down. Calm down darling.”

Taken aback by her remark, her co-star gave a stunned look and replied: “I’m very calm.”

Sharing her thoughts, Rod’s wife wondered if Covid-19 passports could be brought in to allow a full capacity in theatres.

Loose Women viewers were quick to take to Twitter to share their thoughts.

One wrote: “How patronising is Penny Lancaster @loosewomen. Hope Brenda has words after the show!!!!”
