Priscilla Presley has opened up about her love-life with late husband Elvis following the birth of their daughter Lisa Marie.
Priscilla and music legend Elvis were together for eight years before deciding to tie the knot in Las Vegas in 1967.
Just nine months later, they welcomed their first and only child – Lisa Marie.
While Lisa Marie’s arrival was a happy time for the married couple, who went on to divorce in 1973, it changed the dynamics of their relationship.
Writing in her memoir, Priscilla, 77, said: “[Elvis] had mentioned to me before we were married that he had never been able to make love to a woman who had a child."
She went on to say that Elvis then had a “hard time” seeing her as anything but a mother, which went on to affect how Priscilla saw herself.
“I [was] beginning to doubt my own sexuality as a woman,” Priscilla penned. "My physical and emotional needs were unfulfilled.”
Backing up the claims, Elvis’ long-time friend Sonny West said: “It didn’t come easy for Elvis to be a committed husband. Elvis viewed her as a mother first and a wife second, and he had hang-ups about making love with her."
Sonny further noted that it was Elvis’ relationship with his own mother that was likely behind The King’s way of thinking.
"[Gladys] gave him so much love and attention when he was growing up that he came to put all mothers on a special pedestal,” he said, as perThe Express.
“The idea of sex with a mother was, to Elvis, out of the question."
While their marriage came to an end, the pair remained friends.
After their divorce, Priscilla embarked on a brief romance with Robert Kardashian – the late father of Kim, Kourtney, Khloe and Rob.
The pair dated in 1975, but their romance wasn’t meant to be as Robert went on to marry Kris Jenner three years later.
Then in the mid 1980’s, Priscilla embarked on a relationship with American entrepreneur Marco Garibaldi.
Her romance with Marco was her longest relationship to date, with the pair remaining together up until 2006.
Over the course of their relationship they welcomed a son, Navarone, in 1987.
Sadly Navarone now remains Priscilla’s only surviving child afterLisa Marie passed away last month.
The mum-of-three was just 54 at the time of her death, which was brought on by a cardiac arrest.
Wednesday, 1 February, would have been the star’s 55th birthday.
