Shannon Singh has confirmed that she’s in a “really happy place” with her boyfriend Ben Sterling, five months on from leaving Love Island.
Shannon, 23, becamethe first Islander to leave the villathis summer in a shock twist and, while she was disappointed andbranded the show as a “waste of her time”, she now believes that “everything happens for a reason”.
Professional DJ Ben and Shannon had dated prior to the show but went their separate ways in March 2021.
However, the pair now seem happier than ever after rekindling their romance, and recently heading on a trip to Mexico together.
Speaking exclusively to OK!, Shannon said: “For me, everything happens for a reason. I’m in a really happy place now. Life didn’t go the way I wanted it to with the show, but I’m grateful that (Ben) gave me another shot.”
“We’re really happy,” the 23 year old continued. “We’re honestly really happy. I have one of the things that a lot of the contestants don’t have, which is privacy in a happy relationship.
“I feel like I’ve won, to be honest.”
In regards to Love Island, Shannon said she feels like the show is a “long distance memory”, and doubled down on how she’s “in a really great place” at the moment.
“In hindsight, it wasn’t meant to be for me and I’m doing really great,” she said.
Discussing her five year year plan, Shannon admitted that she’d like to become a mum in the not-so distant future.
She explained: “I’m getting to the age now when I want my mum to become a grandma, my dad to be a grandpa. I want a little one, but not anytime soon.
"People will be like, ‘Oh my god you’re back with Ben and you’re already having a baby,’ but we’re both not established in our careers yet — he’s off touring every five minutes. But, in the next five years, I’d love to have a little one by the time I’m 26 or 27. That’s when my mum had me.”
While a baby is on the cards for Shannon over the next few years, the 23 year old admitted that she’s not particularly fussed about getting married.
She said: “I don’t need a piece of paper and a fancy wedding to show someone that I love them.”
“I think marriage is a curse!,” Shannon laughed. “Honestly, I’ve always said it. You see so many relationships go down hill once they get married.”
As well as becoming a mum, Shannon said she wants to start her own business and hopes to become a successful Twitch streamer.
"I love Gaming," Shannon said. "The thing that's annoying me right now is my living situation. I'm living right now with my best mate and I love it, but me and Ben are maybe going to look at getting a house — not soon, we're probably going to wait a little bit — but my gaming set up is at the flat in Berkhamsted."
