Taylor Swift‘s announcement that she will perform at the Melbourne Cup in November has evoked strong protest from animal activists.
Victoria Racing Club announced that the multiple Grammy Award-winning singer will sing two songs from her new album, Lover, before the start of the renowned horse race on November 5.
The Coalition for the Protection of Racehorses launched a social media campaign to discourage Swift from performing at the $8 million race.
The group alleged that Swift has put money before compassion by agreeing to perform at the 2019 Melbourne Cup.
“Horses are being killed for gambling profits and entertainment. If Taylor Swift cares at all about other animals the way she appears to care about cats, she will cancel her show and make a strong statement that animal abuse is unacceptable,” the Coalition said on social media.
