Sam Thompson and Zara McDermott get competitive

Sam Thompson is reportedly feeling “insecure” about Zara McDermott’s Strictly stint.

It comes after the couple’s previous relationship breakdown, which was played out on Made In Chelsea, when the Love Island star, 26, admitted she cheated during her stint on X Factor: Celebrity in 2019, while she was in a relationship with Sam, 31.

“They broke up because of it but have claimed to be super strong ever since,” a source has told OK!. “Sam is massively dreading history repeating itself and the Strictly curse is definitely playing on his mind.” has contacted Zara McDermott’s and Sam Thompson’s representatives for comment.

Zara was the seventh contestant announced to be taking part in the BBC dance competition.

Following the eagerly anticipated announcement of Zara’s latest project, reality star Sam filmed himself throwing his arms in the air with excitement.

“Go on Goose! The news is out! So damn excited for this journey,” he wrote on the clip, which was later posted on Instagram. “I’ll be coming down [each week] with a placard.

“And I’m going to bring Pete [Wicks]. Pete, me, you, the whole squad. We’re so proud of you.”

Speaking about her BBC debut, Zara gushed: “I am so excited to be joining the world of Strictly! I grew up watching it every year with my nan and she was the biggest Strictly fan.

“We would dance around the house and I have such fond memories of that time in my life.”

She added: “I even remember the first ever series, and being mesmerised by all the beautiful dresses! I can’t wait to throw myself into this experience and start training. It’s going to be incredible.”

It has not yet been confirmed who the celebrity contestants will be partnered with on the BBC series.

Romances have blossomed on the BBC show over the years between celebrities and professionals including EastEnders actor Matt Di Angelo and dancer Flavia Cacace – who later went on to marry her celebrity partner Jimi Mistry.

Gemma Atkinson and dancer Gorka Marquez, although they weren’t partnered together, are now parents to two children.
