Netflix Announces Addition of 'Kuroko's Basketball' Anime

Showing no signs of slowing down, Netflix has now announced the addition of Tadatoshi Fujimaki’s Kuroko’s Basketball (Kuroko no BasukeThe Basketball Which Kuroko Plays). The announcement of the upcoming streaming of the first season of the anime comes after the streaming platform added Marvel Anime: X-Men and Marvel Anime: Wolverine to its growing animation lineup.

Kuroko’s Basketball centers around a team of junior high school basketball prodigies known as the Generation of Miracles who disband to join different high schools with top basketball teams. Aside from the prominent five stars is the Generation of Miracles’ Phantom Sixth Man, Tetsuya Kuroko, who starts as a freshman at Seirin High, a new school with a powerful, yet lesser-known, basketball team. Teaming up with Taiga Kagami, a naturally talented player who spent most of junior high school in America, the Seirin team aims to reach the top of Japan, taking on Kuroko’s old teammates one by one.

Debuted in 2012, Kuroko’s Basketball captivated sports manga/anime fans throughout its 30-volume serialization in Shueisha‘s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine and three-season run. The series also spurred a 2017 animated film and even a stage play adaptation.

Season 1 of Kuroko’s Basketball is set to be available on Netflix come January 15.

For more entertainment news, Netflix recently announced a Yū Yū Hakusho live-action series.
