Nick Carter accused of sexual assault and battery in new lawsuit

Nick Carter is being sued for sexual assault and battery by singer Melissa Schuman in a new lawsuit over a 2002 incident.

Schuman, who was in the band Dream, claims the Backstreet Boys singer, 43, forcibly performed oral sex on her and made her do the same.

She also alleges the Shape of My Heart musician forced her to have sex with him despite telling him she was a virgin and wanted to save herself for marriage, according to legal documents obtained by TMZ.

Schuman previously accused Carter of rape in 2017 and filed a police report although prosecutors did not pursue the case.

Carter has denied all of the accusations made by Schuman.

His lawyer Liane K Wakayama told TMZ: ‘Melissa Schuman has been peddling this tale for many years, but her allegation was false when she first made it back in 2017 – and it still is.

‘A judge in Nevada recently ruled, after reviewing the extensive evidence we laid out, that there are strong grounds for Nick Carter to proceed with his lawsuit against Ms Schuman for plotting to damage, defame and extort Nick, his associates, his friends and his family.

‘In light of our progress in Nevada, this kind of response is at once both predictable and pathetic. But this PR stunt won’t shake Nick from his determination to hold Ms Schuman and her co-conspirators to account for the immeasurable pain and suffering their extortionate conduct has caused.’

Carter is also facing allegations of sexual battery by a woman named Shannon Ruth, who claims he sexually assaulted her in 2001 when she was 17 following a concert in Tacoma.

The lawsuit reportedly states that she contracted HPV, and is seeking damages for an unknown amount.

Carter denies all the accusations against him and filed a countersuit against Ruth and Schuman earlier this year.

According to documents obtained by People Magazine, Carter claims both women launched a conspiracy to ‘defame and vilify him’ in part due to garner ‘attention’ or to extort money from him. has contacted reps for Carter for comment.
