Taylor Swift fights back tears as she performs song about late grandmother

The Eras Tour has proven to be an emotional ride for Taylor Swift so far.

Embarking on her first tour in almost five years this week, the US superstar took to the stage in Arizona with Paramore and Gayle as opening acts.

Her show takes adoring fans through her 17-year career, as she plays over 40 songs over a three-hour set from each album – talk about stamina!

And one moment in the concert that’s touched everyone’s hearts is her performance of Marjorie.

The heartfelt track is taken from her evermore album, released as the follow-up to lockdown’s folklore, and recalls tales about Taylor’s late grandmother on her mother’s side, Marjorie Finlay.

Naturally, it’s a moving moment, and Taylor herself became tearful as she sang the tune on Saturday night.

Marjorie was not on my eras bingo card but i needed it 🥲 thank you miss swift for the tears @taylorswift @taylornation #erastour

In footage captured by one lucky fan in the stadium, the 33-year-old can be seen with watery eyes, blinking hard at one point as if to wish the tears away.

But, Taylor powers through the performance and delivers stunning vocals, despite being emotional.

Lyrics for Marjorie include lines like: ‘What died didn’t stay dead, you’re alive, you’re alive in my head’, and: ‘Should’ve kept every grocery store receipt, ’cause every scrap of you would be taken from me’.

Taylor’s tears didn’t go unnoticed by fans online either, many of whom were desperate to give her a hug.

‘taylor cried during marjorie. i need to hug her’, one fan tweeted.

As for her Eras Tour as a whole, Taylor has received nothing but glowing reviews.

With everything from elaborate set designs to multiple outfit changes, the Blank Space hitmaker has proven once again she knows how to put on a show worth paying for.

She’s been delighting fans with her biggest hits, from All Too Well to Look What You Made Me Do, and even welcomed a host of famous guests to the stadium.

Ms. Swift is yet to announce international tour dates, but we’re keeping everything crossed that she’ll be back on English soil soon.
