The recent Friends reunion has left us thinking about the stars of the show just as much as we were during the sitcom's 10-year run which ended in 2004.

During the one-off special Jennifer Aniston admitted to majorly flirting with David Schwimmer, while it’s long been reported that Matthew Perry had feelings for Courteney Cox.

However, it's believed that relations between the cast went a lot further than this.

Asked in a previous interview if they signed contracts agreeing that they wouldn’t hook up with another cast member, David Schimmer hinted that there was some truth to the rumours.

Lisa Kudrow giggled, “David, say something!”, to which David, who played Ross on the show, said, “Well, that was broken!”

So while their on-screen chemistry is undeniable, did any of the actors actually hook up in real life and were the romances always as fictional as we thought?

David Schwimmer and Jennifer Aniston

It’s believed that Ross and Rachel dated for real in 2005 shortly after Jennifer Aniston divorced Brad Pitt.

However, neither have confirmed the rumours and both went on to marry other people – David married Zoe Buckman in 2010 and Jennifer Aniston married Justin Theroux in 2015.

During the reunion, David insisted that nothing ever happened despite their mutual feelings for each other.

"At some point we were both crushing hard on each other, but it was like two ships passing because one of us was always in a relationship. And we never crossed that boundary," he said.

While Jennifer added: "We just channelled all of our adoration and love for each other into Ross and Rachel."

Courteney Cox and Matt LeBlanc

Despite denying anything romantic has ever happened, Courteney and Matt Le Blanc were once spotted sharing a kiss in Los Angeles.

At the time both were single causing the rumour mill to into overdrive.

However, Courteney then got back together with her former fiancee Snow Patrol guitarist Jonny McDaid and the pictures were dismissed as just two close friends hanging out together.

Courteney Cox and Matthew Perry

Around the same time, Courteney was linked to Matthew Perry and he was reported to have been the first person she called after her shock break up.

Matthew has since officially said that he had never slept with any of his main co-stars on the show.

He said: “I think there was no sex between any of them, or else I was really missing something, I personally did not.”

Matthew Perry and Julia Roberts

However, Matthew Perry did strike up a romance with one of the Friends guest stars – namely Julia Roberts who starred in a 1996 episode as Chandler's old school friend.

A source at the time said that, “They have fun together,” while another source said that the relationship between the pair was a “casual” one.

Matt LeBlanc and Jennifer Aniston

Matt Le Blanc's dad Paul LeBlanc once claimed that his son had an on set fling with Jennifer Aniston and that the pair would often be found hooking up in their dressing rooms.

Paul told OK! USA that, “Matt got on good with Jen. He told me about it – they would make out in the dressing room."

However, both stars’ reps denied these claims, with Aniston’s publicist stating that, “Jennifer has never had a romantic or sexual relationship with Matt LeBlanc.”

Jennifer Aniston and Paul Rudd

However, Jennifer Aniston did reportedly have a brief fling with Phoebe Buffay's on-screen boyfriend Mike, played by Paul Rudd.

The pair are believed to have had a fling shortly before she met Brad Pitt.

When promoting Wanderlust in 2012, Jennifer admitted that the pair had been "making out for decades" so the kissing scenes weren’t awkward.

Jennifer Aniston and Tate Donovan

Earlier in her career things certainly did get awkward after a former fiancée was cast to guest star in the show.

When Jennifer started out on Friends she was, in fact, engaged to Tate Donovan who ended up acting in the show following their break up.

Tate told the Huffington Post that, “We were broken up and producers were like ‘Hey would you wanna do six episodes of the show?’ And I was like ‘Maybe it would be good to work through this breakup’”.

Although Tate wanted to work through the breakup, he explained that, “It was horrible. It was so tough, man. I remember just getting back to my dressing room and just weeping.”
