Since Oliver Valentine (James Anderson) returned to Holby City we’ve learned that he’s hiding some terrible mistake in his recent past. We also know that he hit former partner Maisie (Katherine Jack).
He doesn’t deny that this happened, but told Maisie that he couldn’t remember it. He has blackouts, he explained, during which whole spans of time just vanish.
This is all linked to the brain injury he got when Henrik Hanssen (Guy Henry)’s son Fredrik went on a shooting spree around the hospital. Ollie was hurt while he was operating on a patient, and clearly just being in an operating theatre is very uncomfortable for him.
In tonight’s episode, mentor Russ Faber (Simon Slater) discovers what happened between Oliver and Maisie. ‘He needs help before someone gets badly hurt,’ she insists. But at that very moment, Oliver is in theatre with Hanssen, operating on a patient. When the pressure is on, will Ollie be able to handle the situation? Or could someone else be about to get hurt?
Dominic (David Ames) is back at work, while his mum Carole has some respite care. Is it the stress of caring for Carole that leads him to assume he knows best while diagnosing a patient? An angry Max (Jo Martin) disagrees with his conclusions, but who’s right?
Josh (Trieve Blackwood-Cambridge) was reluctant to confide in Ange (Dawn Steele) about his bulimia, fearing that it might change her attitude towards him. At the start of the episode it seems that his fears might have come true. ‘You’re not my carer,’ he pleads with her as she fusses.
Can Ange learn to back off and give Josh the support he needs while still keeping their relationship alive?
And one of tonight’s patients is a clown. Which of the staff will find him hilarious, and who will be too scared to go near him?
