Inside Carol Vorderman’s bitter row with former friend Michelle Mone

Carol Vorderman has made no secret of her dislike for Lady Michelle Mone OBE over recent years and recently took a public swipe at her former friend live on This Morning.

TV presenter Carol, 62, and Michelle, 51, were once very close pals and were known to enjoy fun nights out together and head to glitzy events as a duo. However, their friendship came to an abrupt end many years ago when Carol cut things off with Michelle.

Mum-of-two Carol has publicly slammed Michelle, who is married to billionaire Doug Barrowman, on a number of occasions, making her thoughts about the controversy surrounding Baroness Mone and government contracts with PPE well known.

Carol has even previously claimed her ex-pal should be "slammed in jail where she belongs", and has written several tweets about Michelle over the years.

Baroness Mone is accused of "extraordinarily aggressive" lobbying in a bid to award the PPE company MedPro the £200million contract to produce face masks and medical gowns during the pandemic. The baroness denies she or her husband profited from the contracts.

In a statement, she previously said: "I was asked to help at a time of national emergency. I declared all necessary interests and have done nothing wrong."

The 59 year old lingerie tycoon has taken a leave of absence from her position in the House of Lords and had the Tory whip removed earlier this month.

Carol and Michelle were last photographed together in 2012 when they attended the Marion Rose Ball in aid of Children with Leukaemia at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London.

The ex-Countdown host is believed to be the one who ended their friendship, with sources saying at the time: "There was no bitter bust up or rows between them. Carol just decided not to continue the friendship over 10 years ago," as reported by The Sun.

Carol recently reignited her feud with Michelle on live television as she took a swipe at her on This Morning as she discussed PPE with host Alison Hammond.

Appearing on the ITV daytime show, Carol said: "I cannot talk about useless PPE without also talking about Michelle Mone who was brought into the House of Lords, as a baroness, by David Cameron.

"We know she has taken leave of absence without losing the Tory whip to start with because she was actively involved, as it goes, with a company called PPE MedPro."

Carol continued: "Now Michelle Mone, I knew, many years ago and then dropped her like a stone as soon as I realised what kind of person she was," before looking at the camera and commenting: "Sue me, Michelle."

A source close to the businesswoman has since hit out at Carol following her This Morning outburst, branding her "publicly-hungry".

Speaking to The Mirror, the source said: "Baroness Mone will not be commenting on this publicity-hungry person."

The insider also disputed Carol's claims that Michelle and her husband Doug Barrowman paid for a super yacht and private jet with PPE money.
