The One Big Difference Between Prince Harry and Prince William Revealed

Like many siblings, Prince Harry and Prince William are quite different in their personalities and their personal and professional goals. There is one way the two brothers are very different from one another, according to one royal expert, however.

Prince Harry ‘wears his heart on his sleeve’

Royal author Angela Levin, who wrote Harry: Conversations with the Prince, explained to The Conservative Woman that there is one big difference between the two brothers. She shared: “Prince Harry is more emotional than William and wears his heart on his sleeve.”

She added: “Although his mother, the late Princess Diana, did her best to make sure he didn’t miss out it was hard to compete with an older bother destined to be king one day. Harry adored his mother and marveled at how much ‘fun’ she was.”

Levin further noted: “He said he felt safe because a key aimof her life was to ‘protect’ him and William.”

The author was able to secure a private interview with Prince Harry and noted, “I had seen countless times how inspirational and caring he was with people of all ages and types, especially those who were psychologically damaged. I asked if he was also using these occasions to try to help work through his own mental health issues.”

She continued, “He was silent for a while, then said:‘You’re right, of course’, and we had a wide-ranging conversation.”

Prince Harry loves to joke

Prince Harry has a fun-loving sense of humor as well, with royal aides sharing in the two-part documentary The Story of the Royals just how much he loves jokes and having a laugh.

David Wiseman, a former soldier and one of Prince Harry’s architects for the Invictus Games, shared: “But there are only very few situations where [Harry] can let that shine, and one of those is when he’s around the lads. He understands he comes from a position of privilege, and he’s not ashamed of that. He understands it’s his duty to use that to have a positive impact.”

Prince William, by comparison, is a bit more reserved and has a “faint awkwardness,” according to royal biographer Penny Junor, who shared, “Harry makes you laugh within seconds. He will make a joke at his own expense. He will make a joke at your expense. It’s like talking to a normal person. With the Prince of Wales and with William, there’s always a feeling that they are somebody a little bit different.”

Why Prince William has a more reserved personality

The differences in personality can be attributed, in part, to Prince William’s royal status, with CNN journalist Robert Jobson noting that Prince Harry “is warm, naughty, an extrovert, and has a sense of fun.” He added: “As a result people warm to him. Like his late mother, Princess Diana, he is flawed and that makes him interesting.”

Prince William maintains a different personality, with Jobson noting: “He cannot let his hair down in public — if the Future King was exposed doing what Harry was snapped doing, it would raise serious questions about his suitability to one day to be Britain’s Head of State, a position gifted to him by birthright.”
