Woman creates pink Christmas tree for £110

Woman creates pink Christmas tree for £110

Sometimes it’s nice to venture away from tradition, for a change.

One woman from Carlisle has done exactly that with her Christmas decorations this year.

Receptionist Laura Kenney usually likes to think outside the box when it comes to her yuletide decor, and this year she decided to give her tree a pink makeover.

Laura told LatestDeals.co.uk: ‘I started doing mine and my family’s trees a couple of years back, and I love thinking of different ideas to do them with different colours and styles.

‘I take pride in making things and turning plain things into something amazing.

‘I wanted something different from a traditional Christmas tree.

‘I love the colour pink. It’s my favourite colour – my house is almost all pink.’

After moving house earlier this year, Laura bought a seven-foot snow effect Christmas tree for £70 from Very, reduced from £129.99.

She then started to go all in on her decorations  – spending just £40 in total, buying most things in the sales.

‘I already had some bows and blush pink from last year’s tree, so I added silver this year,’ adds Laura.

‘I added white butterflies and little deers which I bought ribbon for and made little necklaces.

‘My little silver ribbon was purchased from B&M. I bought three wheels for £5 which is six metres. I cut them up and threaded them through my branches.

‘I purchased some pink 29cm wide organza ribbon off eBay and I thought I would see how I could put it on my tree so I started experimenting and ta-da – it all came into place.’

In addition to this, she picked up some white butterflies from The Range for £1.99, as well as grey silver flowers from Amazon (£14.99 for six) and silver feathers from B&M.

The 36-year-old also made a display in front of the tree using gift boxes, and up-cycled white lanterns she had lying around for the final finishing touch.

Now Laura is ‘over the moon’ with the finished result and says she’s thrilled she spent £110 on everything – including the tree itself.

She adds: ‘I sit on a night and admire it all cosy and look and think to myself “wow, I did that!”

‘I feel brilliant because in all, it should have cost more than double that cost and I feel I have created a bargain.

‘To keep the costs down, I would go for cheap things and make them look expensive.

‘Add ribbon that costs next to nothing to bling things up, and also shop early to get the best deals, as the closer it gets to Christmas, the more the cheaper decorations are all sold out.’
