Beyoncé Has 28 Grammys: Here's What They're For


After scoring two nominations for “Bills, Bills, Bills” the year prior, at the 2001 Grammys, Destiny’s Child took home two awards — both for their hit song “Say My Name.” The girl group, comprised of Beyoncé Knowles, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams, was nominated for five awards, winning prizes for best R&B performance by a group and best R&B song.

In 2002, the group was nominated again for best R&B album for Survivor and best R&B performance by a group for their song of the same name; they won the latter.

In 2004, Beyoncé embarked on her solo career, scoring six nominations. She went home with five Grammys, including awards for best contemporary R&B album for Dangerously In Love, best R&B song and best rap/sung collaboration for “Crazy In Love,” best R&B performance by a duo for “The Closer I Get To You,” and best female R&B vocal performance for “Dangerously In Love 2.”

In 2006, Beyoncé was nominated with Destiny’s Child again for their album Destiny Fulfilled and songs “Cater 2 U” and “Soldier,” but took home the prize for best R&B performance by a duo for her collaboration with Stevie Wonder on “So Amazing.”

2010 was a huge year for the superstar! She was nominated for 10 Grammys, taking home a whopping six. She won for best contemporary album for I Am… Sasha Fierce, best female pop vocal performance for “Halo” and best traditional R&B vocal performance for “At Last.” Her song “Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)” took home prizes for best R&B song, best female R&B vocal performance and song of the year.

The Recording Academy put their love for Bey on top, sending her home with the Grammy for best traditional R&B performance for “Love on Top.”

The queen added to her already extensive Grammy collection with three more awards in 2015. She won Grammys for best R&B performance and best R&B song for “Drunk In Love,” and an award for best surround sound album for her self-titled album. 

She was also nominated for album of the year, best urban contemporary album, and best music film.

After surprising fans with her Lemonade visual album, it was assumed that the star would sweep the 2017 Grammys. She was nominated for nine awards, including record and album of the year and song of the year, but only won two: best urban contemporary album and best music video for “Formation.”

In 2018, Beyoncé made history as the first Black woman to headline Coachella. Affectionately known as Beychella, the Queen blessed us with the ability to see it for ourselves when she when she released HΘMΣCΘMING: THE LIVE ALBUM in 2019. In 2020, she took home a Grammy for best music film for her work.

In 2021, Beyoncé broke the record for most Grammys won by a woman and most Grammys won by any singer, male or female. 

She and her 9-year-old daughter, Blue Ivy, earned a Grammy for best music video for “Brown Skin Girl,” and Bey won a Grammy for best R&B performance for “Black Parade” plus two more for her collaboration with Megan Thee Stallion. The duo took home prizes for best rap performance and best rap song for “Savage.” In total, the singer has 79 nominations to her name.
