Michael Jackson, aside from his music life, also led a number of philanthropic endeavours such as the Heal the World Foundation. His son, Prince, has followed in his footsteps with his own Heal Los Angeles charity. In an interview about the charity, Prince revealed how his father inspired his charitable work, and the important messages he left his children before his death.
Prince Jackson, in an interview with ITV’s This Morning, opened up on how he has been ‘inspired’ by his father’s philanthropic work in his own endeavours, and the important ‘wisdom’ his father left him.
Speaking to Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes, he said: “I feel that the older I get, the more I get to unpackage the wisdom he left and all the experiences he imparted on us.
“When I see them through a more mature perspective, I’m just extremely grateful to have the life experiences with him that I did and the knowledge he imparted on me.
“Every year I’m more appreciative of that and I miss him even greater because that’s my father.”

When asked for more information on these lessons, Prince was keen to express how Michael’s work ethic affected him, and galvanised him and his siblings to try to ‘do more.’
He continued: “One thing for me is he wanted us to be the best at whatever it is that we did, and it’s a form of motivation and inspiration.
“No matter what you do or how confident you feel or how well you did something, he’d say, ‘That’s great, but what’s next?… What’re you going to learn from this and apply to improve the next one?…’
“Whether it’s charity or music video production, what I do, it’s always figuring out maybe what I did last time was alright, but I need to make it better or the best… one year is fantastic the next year needs to be incredible.”
This was the important wisdom his father left, as Michael himself was constantly innovating and changing his image in order to be the best in the pop world, earning him the moniker of The King of Pop.
Prince’s sister and Michael’s daughter, Paris, is attempting to follow her father in his musical footsteps, which Prince admitted he felt enormous ‘pride’ over.
He added: “We just produced her first music video and her entrance into the entertainment industry.
“I’m very proud of her. It was such an experience to work with my sister and for a gruelling four days.
“Most music videos are not filmed in the way we did but we were inspired by my father’s long form music videos or short film music videos.
“It was such a learning experience and I was so proud to see my sister’s art come to life and I was so proud to be a partner of that.”
It is not only Prince who is inspired by his father’s philanthropic work in informing his own path, but his sister too, who even adopted their father’s way of shooting music videos for her own work.
Unfortunately for Prince, this will not be his path, as he admitted to Eamonn and Ruth how he could not dance or sing, leaving that creativity to his siblings.
In fact, Prince said his role was the ‘protector’ of his siblings, as he works in the management side of their careers.
