One Direction 2021 reunion may secure Super Bowl halftime show performance

Super Bowl 2021: The Weeknd performs at the Halftime Show

The 2021 Super Bowl saw the Tampa Bay Buccaneers triumph over the Kansas City Chiefs, 31 to 9, but for many the competition is all the more exciting for its halftime show. In between all of the sporting excitement, the event was filled with trailers for new films, such as Fast and Furious 9, and Old, along with some performances from chart topping stars – including The Weeknd, and Miley Cyrus. Ladbrokes have now released their latest odds on One Direction playing the next Super Bowl halftime show.

Next year’s lineup has not been announced but there are a collection of artists likely to appear on stage during the event.

Alicia Keys and Megan Thee Stallion are extremely possible to take on the show, as they are part of Jay-Z’s Roc Nation – the NFL’s official entertainment company.

Drake also has a good chance of performing, due to his growing popularity. His performance would make him the second solo Canadian act to take on the halftime show – following The Weeknd.

And the odds currently stand at 3/1 on 1D appearing at the halftime show for the first time. But their halftime debut depends on the band getting back together, however.

Ladbrokes have strong odds on the foursome teaming up in the studio this year, following their split in 2015.

The bookie says 1D have an incredible 1/4 shot of reuniting at some point this year.

The betting agent’s spokesperson Alex Apati commented: “It looks more likely than ever that 1D will get back together this year, and there’s now every chance they take centre stage at next year’s Super Bowl.”

It isn’t all good news, however, as the chances of Zayn Malik returning to perform alongside Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Niall Horan, and Louis Tomlinson are slim.

Zayn left the band in early 2015 while they were on tour in Asia.

The star cited “stress” and wanting to live a “normal” life as his reasons for the unexpected exit.

Currently, Ladbrokes have staggering 1/3 odds on Zayn not returning to the band in their 2021 reunion.

Alternatively, the bookies have 5/2 odds the former member of the team will be making a triumphant comeback.

Apati added: “While a reunion may well be on the cards, it’s unlikely to include former 1D man Zayn Malik if the latest odds are anything to go by.”

But it’s not just the SuperBowl stage that could see the reunited band perform from. Bookmaker Coral has tipped the band to be playing Glastonbury festival for the first time in 2022.

The agent gave 1D 6/4 on them attending Worthy Farm for the first time ever.

Despite the band being together from 2010 to 2015, they never once played the Super Bowl halftime show, or Glastonbury Festival.

This fact is surprising, as over the five years together the quintet sold more than 36 million records worldwide.

They also claimed a staggering 61 number one singles.

The only member who came close to appearing at the halftime show was Harry, who last year was going to perform at the pre-show in Miami.

However, due to the coronavirus pandemic, the event was forced to cancel.
