Great British Bake Off’s Nadiya Hussain has led tributes for former contestant Luis Troyano, who has tragically died.
Luis, who was a runner-up on series five of the show in 2014, died of oesophageal cancer, with his management releasing a statement.
Sharing the statement, Nadiya, who won the following series in 2015, wrote: ‘RIP X’.
Michael Chakraverty, who appeared on the show last year, also responded to the statement saying: ‘Sending love.’
Series eight contestant James Hillery added: ‘Such a sad loss, such a lovely guy and brilliant baker. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.’
Meanwhile, season four runner-up Ruby Tandoh said: ‘Terrible news.’
Sharing the sad news of Luis’s death, his management company wrote: ‘Sadly, my lovely client lost his brave fight against Oesophageal cancer last week.
‘A fantastic man with a love of baking that saw him get to the finals of GBBO, write a wonderful book, Bake It Great and do so much more. Always in our thoughts.’
They also shared a link to a fundraiser that has been set up by his family in his memory to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.
The JustGiving fundraiser set up in his honour includes a message from his partner Louise Troyano, which reads: ‘Your life was a blessing, your memory a treasure, you are loved beyond words and missed beyond measure.’
It also includes a message from Luis, thanking all those who took care of him during his cancer treatment.
‘A special thankyou to Macmillan Cancer Support, East Cheshire Hospice and the NHS including Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust, The Christie NHS Foundation Trust and Stockport NHS Foundation Trust for trying to save my life and their tireless work to try and eliminate cancer,’ he said.
‘But more importantly a massive thank you to all the amazing professionals who really did try their absolute best for me, showed me absolute compassion and gave me more time than what was seemingly possible. I thank you sincerely.’
