Britney Spears children: How old are her kids and does she have custody? – The Sun

BRITNEY Spears' custody agreement scales back the amount of time she gets to spend with her two sons.

Her former partner, Kevin Federline, has 70 percent custody of both children while the Stronger singer gets 30 percent unsupervised custodial rights, TMZ reports.

The pair previously shared 50-50 custody of their boys.

Britney has been candid about battling anxiety and had a very public mental breakdown in 2007 when she initially separated from K-Fed.

How many kids does Britney have, how old are they, and who with?

Britney has two children, Sean, 14 and Jayden, 13 Federline.

Their father is Kevin Federline, one of Britney's former backup dancers.

They met in 2004 and after three months of dating, the pair announced their engagement in July 2004 and got married in September in Studio City, California.

The following year, Britney’s first son Sean was born.

At barely a year old, Sean had already appeared in the TV mini-series Britney & Kevin: Chaotic.

Britney and Kevin gave Sean a little brother not long after.

Jayden Federline, the pair’s second child, was born in September 2006.

However, the romance between the pair ended just a few months after Jayden was born.

Britney filed for divorce from the former dancer in November 2006.

The split was settled in March 2007.

In March 2020, Jayden shared private details about the family on an Instagram Live – revealing that Britney apparently might quit music while lashing out at his granddad Jamie.

Why did Britney Spears lose custody of her kids?

The star previously lost custody of the two boys in 2007 after a very public breakdown which saw the distressed star shave her own head before attacking a photographer's car with an umbrella.

A judge granted full custody to Federline, much to Britney's distress.

In 2008, Brtiney was then arrested after locking herself in a bathroom with Jayden, who was one-year-old at the time.

The drama ended with Britney being stretchered away from her home in an ambulance after a four-hour standoff.

What does Britney pay Kevin Federline?

Britney has been paying her former partner Kevin $20,000 a month in child support as well as their children’s tuition and school costs, TMZ reports.

She has also been paying for their clothing, extracurricular activities, and many other expenses to the tune of nearly $35,000 per month.

In 2018, Kevin asked Britney to increase her money for child support from $20,000 to $60,000 a month, citing that "the kids are older and the financial circumstances of the parties are significantly different than when the child support was originally resolved."

Britney was also ordered to pay K-Fed $100,000 to cover his legal fees and expenses during their negotiations, the Blast reports.

When were her lawyer and father appointed as her conservators?

A conservatorship is a form of legal guardianship.

It grants a chosen individual full authority over another's life and assets.

The conservator typically holds the same rights and responsibilities as a parent would over a child.

It is typically enacted for individuals who are incapable of making their own decisions.

Britney's conservatorship was implemented in 2008 after the star had a series of public meltdowns.

This means that Britney currently has no legal control over her estate or financial and personal assets as those rights were granted to her father and a lawyer 12 years ago.

It had been extended until August 2020 according to court documents obtained by Entertainment Tonight, with temporary conservator Jodi Montgomery to stay on in the role.

Montgomery is reported to be Britney's longtime care manager.

Why is #freebritney trending?

Fans of Britney Spears say the 38-year-old superstar is being manipulated and controlled under the grounds of her conservatorship.

Under the hashtag #freebritney, they're calling for the end of her conservatorship after Kanye West announced he would be running for president of the US.

Specifically, fans are calling for Britney to have access to her own lawyer in her case.

The topic blew up on Twitter after Kanye announced his intention to run for office as fans noted that he, too, was hospitalized for mental illness and held against his will.

"Britney Spears goes through a mental health crisis publicly and she loses her rights. Kanye West goes through a mental health crisis publicly and he runs for president," one tweeted.

"Britney’s situation is truly horrible and is a violation of human rights.

"There’s no reason why she should continue to be under a conservatorship. She doesn’t even have control of her own finances or children," wrote another.

Fans have even gone as far as to start a change.org petition demanding to allow Britney to choose her own lawyer in her conservatorship case.

The Washington Post reported that people close to Britney disagreed with the #FreeBritney movement’s concerns, saying that the conservatorship was in place because of “long-term mental health issues.”

Britney has told her laywer that she is "strongly opposed" to her father continuing to run her conservatorship, and instead would like Jodi Montgomery to take over permanently.

On August 19 this is scheduled to be considered in court.
