Couple builds luxury eco-friendly home in six weeks – with gym and forest garden

A couple has built an incredible four-bedroom eco-friendly home in just six weeks – and it could be yours because it’s now on sale.

Sue Robinson, 51, started building the luxury house in Delamere, Cheshire in 2019 with her partner. The stunning building features underfloor heating, a home gym and office, and a gorgeous landscaped garden.

‘We wanted to build an energy-efficient, economical-to-run house with short construction time,’ says Sue.

‘We loved the project of creating our own home tailored to our specific needs – it reflects who we are.’

The couple started the build with a timber frame building technique that allowed them to finish the project much quicker than normal.

To build the four-bedroom house, the architectural plans were sent to a factory where the whole building was designed and built offsite by engineers.

All the house parts and materials were then shipped to the site in Delamere and assembled using cranes.

In less than four days, the house had a roof fitted and was watertight. The rest of the construction – including electrical installation, installing the heating systems, laying floors, building stairs, fitting bathroom furniture and tiling – was finished in less than six weeks. That included all the painting and decorating of the house too.

According to Sue, the hardest part was choosing the room layout. She says: ‘The layout could be whatever we wanted it to be – so the freedom of choice was a little overwhelming at first.

‘But then we got into the flow of what we wanted and agreed on what the layout should be.

‘Having lived overseas before, it was really important to achieve indoor-outdoor living and have a covered area outside.

‘I love to cook but don’t like to feel as if I’m closed away, so having an open plan space was important. Our focus was to have eating and entertaining areas both inside and outside.’

Sue says the pair also managed to create flexibility in the home by using one room as an office and a gym – which she says was particularly great during lockdown.

Inside the house, you’ll find a large kitchen, dining and living room space with windows along one wall. Outside, the property is a modern building bordered by trees and features a covered deck space with an outdoor sofa.

The home is currently on the market for £825,000 through Purple Bricks as the couple are planning to move abroad.

‘This property is so special with so many unique features,’ says Leah Connor, Purplebricks local property expert.

‘If you love walking and being in a rural setting then the location is perfect. You are also within a 15-minute drive of the roman town of Chester which offers fantastic shopping facilities and global eateries.’
