EASTENDERS star Danny Dyer has revealed his bizarre real name – joking his dad was "off his nut" when he came up with it.
The 43-year-old actor, famous as Mick Carter in the soap, explained that he is actually called "Danial" with an A.
Danny revealed that he still uses the unusually-spelt name on his bank cards and passport – to the amusement of his daughter Dani.
Speaking on their Sorted podcast, he explained: "I did change my name – my name's Danial.
"My old dad, and I love him very much, he's old school. I was born in the 70s. Men didn't really get involved in much.
"Back in the day my mum would go: 'I'm going into labour' and he'd be up the boozer.
"He'd go: 'All right. What time are you going to be home?' She went into labour and gave birth.
"Anyway he got up there, obviously off his nut and got to do the important thing which is the birth certificate, which I think you have to sign.
"He agreed to the name Daniel but he spelt it Danial. Could have been a mix of things, could have been that he was battered, could have been that he doesn't spell. Could have been a bit of both actually."
He added: "As I got into the acting years, I changed it to Danny. It was always going to be Danny."
He subsequently appeared under that name in his breakout hit, 1999 coming-of-age drama Human Traffic.
The star's pregnant daughter Dani, 24, found the revelation hilarious, saying: "That's not your name – you're a fraud if anything."
Showbiz-watchers have seen Danny's dad Tony Dyer before – with the pair forming an amusing double act on Who Do You Think You Are.
The actor goes to meet him at an East End pub to look through some old photographs in the famous episode, which sees him learn that he is related to royalty.
