Death in Paradise marked its 10th anniversary at the start of 2021 with some old faces popping back up on Saint Marie. The BBC comedy-drama will be carrying on the celebrations, right until the end of the year with a Christmas edition of the show. Here’s everything we know so far about Death in Paradise’s upcoming festive episode.

When is the release date for the Death in Paradise Christmas special?

BBC announced the good news last month, much to the delight of Death in Paradise fans who have never seen the show at Christmas before.

The series has always started airing in the New Year, after all of the celebrations are over.

This time around though, Death in Paradise will be part of the Christmas joy but as of yet, it is unclear when the episode will air as the channel has only stated it will be sometime in December.

Over the past few years, Call the Midwife has been in one of BBC One’s primetime slots on Christmas Day itself so could it change for 2021?

Who is in the cast of the Death in Paradise Christmas special?

The season 10 cast will be returning for the one-off festive version of the show.

So DI Neville Parker (played by Ralf Little), DS Florence Cassell (Josephine Jobert), Commissioner Don Warrington (Selwyn Patterson) and officer Marlon Pryce (Tahj Miles) are all going to be in the episode.

There will be a very welcomed addition as well in the shape of former officer Dwayne Myers (Danny John Jules).

He made his exit in 2018 but will be making a return, especially for this Christmas special.

The Red Dwarf star’s character left so he could be reunited with his long-lost dad Nelson Myers (Ram John Holder).

The pair left Saint Marie to go sailing around the Caribbean and get to know one another properly.

John-Jules said: “After four years away, fitting back into the fold should be seamless as I know all the new leading cast members already.

“I look forward to bringing Dwayne and this tenth-anniversary special script to life.”

Is there a trailer for the Death in Paradise Christmas special?

So far, a trailer hasn’t been released for the Christmas special.

The cast and crew started shooting for the one-off show last month.

Typically, trailers come out a bit nearer to the time of when the show is to be released.

Therefore, fans should expect a promo to come out in December 2021.

What will the Death in Paradise Christmas special be about?

The festive instalment will be set both ini London and Saint Marie.

Florence will leave the island to spend Christmas with her family but as the potential romance between herself and

Neville has been teased, she is expected to still feature in the episode.

Meanwhile, when Dwayne does return, he realises that he recognises Marlon as he had previously arrested him.

Death in Paradise is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
