EastEnders legend completely transformed after quitting show

EastEnders star Nick Berry looks completely different now in comparison to his time Walford.

The actor, who portrayed Simon ‘Wicksy’ Wicks in the BBC One soap, was pictured on a walk down to his local high street, sporting grey hair and a beard.

He was wearing a bright yellow coat, and finished off his look with a pair of aviator sunglasses, as he enjoyed the sunshine.

Nick, 58, made his debut in EastEnders back in 1985, during the serial drama’s 67th episode, and remained on the Square for five years.

Wicksy instantly became a fan-favourite, and is largely remembered for singing original song Every Loser Wins during the summer months of 1986 – a tune which the character wrote after leaving musical group The Banned.

In the real world, Every Loser Wins was a huge success, enjoying three weeks at Number One in the UK charts.

Simon memorably had an affair with Ian Beale’s (Adam Woodyatt) wife Cindy (Michelle Collins), who subsequently fell pregnant with his child, Steven.

Nick departed EastEnders in 1990.

Two years later, he landed his other most-known role, playing PC Nick Rowan in Heartbeat.

He retired from acting some years later, telling the Daily Mail in 2011 that he decided to be a ‘stay-at-home dad’, which he ‘loved.’

‘I always said that when the boys were teenagers I could go back, but the longer you don’t do something the harder it is to do it, and I haven’t really missed it,’ he told the publication at the time.

‘While I’d never say never, I’m genuinely happy as I am.’

Nick reprised his role as Wicksy in EastEnders for a one-off appearance in 2012, showing up at mum Pat Butcher’s (Pam St Clement) grave in the wake of her funeral.
