EastEnders viewers will see Bobby Beale (played by Clay Milner Russell) explore Islam in upcoming episodes after his recent stint in prison.
Bobby returned to the Square earlier in the year after serving his sentence at a young offenders’ unit for murdering his sister.
Jon Sen, executive producer on EastEnders, said: “We are thrilled to be working with the Muslim Youth Helpline on a storyline which serves to challenge preconceptions and prejudices about the role of faith in young peoples’ lives.
“Bobby Beale’s story will show how a young boy uses religion to help find peace and give his life meaning, structure and purpose.
“We hope this storyline will demonstrate the positive impact of religion in modern society.”
EastEnders fans will see the positive impact the Islamic faith has had on Bobby as he explores the faith now he has left the unit and returned home.
After his shocking crime against his sister, viewers will see Bobby head in a new direction with the help of religion.
The Muslim Youth Helpline has been working with BBC soap producers to offer advice on the new storyline.
The helping is a support service to help young Muslim’s deal with any pressures they face and they are glad to be able so show Islam in a positive light.
Zohra Khaku, director of the Muslim Youth Helpline, said: “The Muslim Youth Helpline have been providing feedback on Bobby’s storyline with the BBC EastEnders team.
