Emmerdale: Debbie Dingle is revealed as Al's mystery woman
Emmerdale fans were stunned when Al Chapman’s (played by Michael Wildman) mystery woman was unveiled as Debbie Dingle (Charley Webb) last week. The mechanic has been living in Scotland for some time and the two’s lives entwined when Al’s car broke down and Debbie came to his rescue. Since then, the pair have been dating in secret, despite the businessman being engaged to Priya Sharma (Fiona Wade). Express.co.uk spoke to the actors involved in this storyline about what’s to come and it seems Al won’t be changing his ways any time soon.
When asked whether Al really loves Priya considering he is consciously and knowingly cheating on her with another villager, Michael explained: “The whole thing is, it’s not a case of he’s become bored with Priya so he’s looking for something else. This situation has arrived out of a situation of circumstance, basically.
“And every time he’s gone back to see this person [Debbie], I think his intention was to end it. He never did. He went away and had a good time.
“He thought: ‘You know what, maybe I can get one more good time. And I’ll just leave it and I’ll just leave it alone for a bit.’
“And then we get to this problem that we’re in now. He says that he loves her [Debbie], I think mostly in response. So when you see him on the phone, and a lot of the time, she’s saying, ‘I love you’ and he’ll say, ‘I love you’ in response because obviously, he needs to keep her there. He wants to keep her there,” he continued.

“I don’t think you can equate the two as been the same. I think his love for Priya is genuine. Even though he’s having an affair, but it is genuine.
“It’s just his fundamental weakness with women,” the actor remarked.
At the moment, Al is managing to keep the two ladies separate; seeing Debbie in hotel rooms and when darkness falls, at her cottage, while living with Prey.
But what lengths will he go in order to protect his secret?
Michael said: “Whatever’s necessary, basically.
“Well, unfortunately for Al Chapman, he’s selfish. And he’s a narcissist.
“When he’s backed into a corner, unfortunately, it’s going to look after number one and it’s going to be to the detriment of people around them. That is his major flaw.
“So whatever the situation calls for is what he’ll do,” he added.

With Priya in the dark about Al’s true colours, why is she with such a devious man?
The actress who plays her said: “Priya hadn’t been with someone for a good couple of years for years. And I think when she met out, obviously he’s good looking, handsome, everything, but he’s powerful.
“And I think she just felt… she likes the challenge. And I think he was a challenge at the beginning.
“And I think she just felt that this is what she wanted, and whatever his past is, not that she could change him, but that they were a good fit,” she revealed.
“He’s actually good man. I think she really saw the good in him, despite everything he’s done before.
“And also, she’d been with her Rakesh before, he had also done some terrible things.
“But I think she understood. She has this understanding of why people do certain things. She thinks it’s circumstance or out of desperation. So she seems to see the good in people.
“And I think at first it was definitely a challenge [for Priya to date Al]; the fact that he’s a strong, sort of powerful man, and they worked in the same place together.
“She’s a strong woman. And I think that she just thought this is a great fit, and she fancied him.
“Despite everything, she’s brave, and when she wants something, she just goes for it. She’s quite focused and tunnel vision,” the actress stated.
Emmerdale airs tonight at 7pm on ITV.
