Joe (played by Ned Porteous) appeared to have been killed by his right-hand man Graham (Andrew Scarborough) in 2018 as Kim (Claire King) ordered him dead. Graham couldn’t bring himself to murder his friend but allowed Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) to believe he’d killed him. Fans found out last year that Joe was in hiding in Monte Carlo and since then, many have been desperate to see him back in Emmerdale village. Now could be the right time for him to return.
The Tate family are currently in disarray with Andrea Tate (Anna Nightingale) blackmailing estranged husband Jamie (Alexander Lincoln) and his mother Kim.
Andrea knows Jamie was the one who was involved in a hit and run with Moira Dingle (Natalie J Robb), and has threatened to expose him if he doesn’t do as he’s told.
Proving she isn’t afraid of making demands, Andrea insisted Claire move out of Home Farm and away from Jamie so she couldn’t meddle in their family business.
As Andrea continues to control the Tates, could she make a call to Joe to enlist his help in keeping Jamie and Claire in line?

Joe was set to marry Debbie Dingle (Charley Webb) before he fled the village so if he returned, he’d have a lot of making up to do to her.
It’s likely he would want to reunite with her but first, he’d want revenge on Kim for ruining his life.
With Andrea determined to get revenge on Jamie for cheating on her with Belle (Eden Taylor-Draper) and Joe wanting to take down Kim, they’d make a powerful team.
Looking to the future, Andrea star Anna hinted Joe could show up and prove to be the ally her character desperately needs.
Speaking to Inside Soap, she revealed: “I do know him, and he is lovely.
“I see quite a lot of the fanbase of Emmerdale are keen for him to come back.
“He absolutely loved his time on the show, and I called him as soon as I got the job here.
“Storyline-wise, it’d be lovely for Andrea to have this ally who has one foot in the Tate family and one foot in their other life.”

But it’s not just Anna who wants to see Joe back in the village as Jamie star Alexander previously teased his return.
He added: “He was very much more ‘Tatey’ than Jamie is, and I think there could be a bit of friction there, which would be really exciting to play.
“I never had the pleasure of meeting Ned Porteous, who played Joe, but I think there would be a great dynamic between Jamie and Joe.”
Whether or not Joe returns remains to be seen but the Tates currently have another problem on their hands – the Dingles.
In upcoming episodes, Jamie will make Belle choose between him and her family.
Torn, Belle will ultimately choose to side with her lover leaving the Dingle family devastated, including her father Zak (Steve Halliwell).
Is it all a game as Belle works alongside Nate Robinson (Jurrel Carter) to expose Jamie’s crime and humiliate him or is she blinded by love?
Either way, the Dingles aren’t about to let the Tate family manipulate one of their own.
Emmerdale airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday on ITV at 7am.
