Strictly Come Dancing is heating up with the couples competing for a place in the quarter final. Rose Ayling-Ellis was first to take to the dance floor for her Paso Doble with Giovanni Pernice and their routine seemed to be doing well until the final moments. As Rose span into Giovanni, she lost her footing a little with the professional dancer almost dropping her.
But while Rose was concerned it may have affected their score, Giovanni rushed to reassure her the slip up was fine.
“It’s okay, it’s okay,” he reassured Rose before giving her a friendly kiss on the cheek.
Fortunately the pair received praise from the judges with Craig Revel Horwood, Cynthia Erivo and Shirley Ballas giving a score of eight.
Anton du Beke also awarded the couple a score of nine, which thrilled Rose.
Commenting on the routine, Shirley said: “Well, what a way to open the show. First of all, you are absolutely a class act.
“You had some beautiful elevation in this dance, you had some great shaping. My next little suggestion for you is just a little bit more breath through the body.
“Also what I love about you is you’re not resting on any laurels of what you’ve done before. You are bringing it week in and week out.
“Tiny little stumble at the end but otherwise well done.”
Anton added: “I thought that was marvellous. Now, I’ve seen you come out here week after week and start on your own without Giovanni.
“You did it again this evening and once again, you drew all of the attention to you and it wasn’t lost.
“Your work is so clean. I love clean work, it makes me so excited. Your intensity is good but just a bit held and so you don’t get that lovely finishing of your lines. But I just love watching you dance.”
Ahead of Saturday’s show, Dan Walker was the bookies favourite to be eliminated from the competition next.
He is the odds-on favourite to be eliminated at odds of 5/6.
Meanwhile, Rose Ayling-Ellis could be set to secure Giovanni Pernice his first win as her odds of being champion are cut again to 1/5.
Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “Punters have been backing Rose in their swarms since pretty much day one, and with her odds of winning the Glitterball Trophy at record lows, it looks like she’s on course for another perfect score this weekend.”
He added: “The immediate future isn’t as bright for Dan Walker, however, with the latest odds suggesting he’ll finally be sent home.
“That being said, this is a position in the betting the BBC Breakfast star knows all too well, so don’t be too surprised if he upsets the odds once again.”
Will Dan be the next celebrity booted out of the competition or could his Rumba save him from elimination?
Strictly Come Dancing airs Saturday on BBC One at 6.55pm.
