I’m A Celeb host Ant McPartlin surprises Welsh local with heartwarming selfie

With the 20th of series of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! launching this weekend, Ant McPartlin has been taking time to soak in the sights of North Wales in between filming commitments.

The presenter, 44, was spotted strolling around the nearby town of Conwy on Friday, pausing to snap a selfie with a local business owner.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, it was not possible for the I’m A Celeb crew to travel Down Under this year, meaning ITV bosses looked closer to home for an alternative filming location.

Gwrych Castle near the town of Abergele has been chosen to host the series, with 10 lucky contestants fighting to be crowned king or queen of the castle in three weeks' time.

The show’s legendary hosts Ant and Dec have returned for another series, and the pair have wasted no time in getting to know the locals.

On Friday, Ant stopped by The Mulberry restaurant, which is perched by Conwy Marina, where he ran into eatery manager Jackie.

Sharing a snap of the pair to the restaurant’s Facebook page, the caption read: "Now there’s a nice surprise at The Mulberry today.

"Casually working and look who has time to take a selfie with our manager Jackie. It’s only Ant from I’m a celeb."

The production has also given the local community a welcome boost, with the arrival of production crews and an increased draw for tourists.

Discussing the production at Gwrych Castle, business owner Keith Towlands told NorthWales Live: "I'm quite happy about it. I think it will help the village a lot.

"Ant came in yesterday for a wander around. He was here for around 20 minutes, and said he would be back so I'll keep my fingers crossed."

Ant and Dec have been keeping fans entertained with some behind the scenes selfies, evening offering a glimpse of the sprawling castle estate when it was lit up in the evening.

Delighted to have arrived on set, they gushed: " We’re heeerrrreee! Kings of the castle or a pair of dirty rascals?"

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! debuts tomorrow night at 9pm on ITV.
