Jane the Virgin season 5 Netflix release date: Will there be another season?

It’s good news – the satirical telenovela series, which also streams on Netflix, is coming back this spring. Show bosses of the CW show confirmed that they will be bringing it back in 2019. Sadly for fans, however, next season will be the last one ever but a spin-off is in the works.

Lead star Gina Rodriguez, who plays Jane Villaneuva, confirmed the news in an interview with Variety earlier this year.

The actress also serves as executive producer on the series and has directed some episodes too.

Speaking about directing she said she plans to do “more directing next year – in our final season”.

When is Jane the Virgin season 5 released on Netflix?

The final season of Jane the Virgin begins Wednesday, March 27 at 9pm on the CW.

Episodes will likely be added to Netflix in the UK the next day.

Season five is set to deviate from the show’s normal pattern as new season always premieres in October.

However, Jane the Virgin is not included on The CW’s autumn schedule so it seems like it will be included in the winter one, meaning it could be slated for a January release.

So season five might not be back on screens until January 2019.

Episodes will continue to be added to Netflix in the UK and Ireland after they air in the US.

WHEN WILL JANE THE VIRGIN SEASON 5 RETURN?

How many episodes will be in Jane the Virgin season 5?

Season four of the telenovela inspired show is the shortest season yet with just 17 episodes.

The previous three runs contained either 20 or 22 in total.

So it’s difficult to predict just how many episodes will be needed to wrap the series up in the final season.

The series follows the same format as other CW series Riverdale, with episodes dropping at 8am on Netflix.

JANE THE VIRGIN SEASON 4 FILMING LOCATION

What will happen in Jane the Virgin season 5?

Fans were shocked when Michael (played by Brett Dier) appeared in the final episode, just as Jane’s (Gina Rodriguez) relationship with Rafael (Justin Baldoni) was starting to get serious.

Michael was Jane’s husband who died in season three but in typical telenovela style, appears to have not been dead after all.

Viewers now have to wait for the next season to understand how he survived.

Plot details have been kept under wraps but this bombshell is sure to shake things up in season five.

A Jane the Virgin spin-off series is now in the works.

”I sat down with Brett about a year ago and told him just to wait, that it was going to happen.“
