Jeannie Mai has spoken out after a ‘life-threatening condition’ forced her to leave Dancing With the Stars this week.
The How Do I Look? star has been treated for the rare condition epiglottis, after medical workers discovered an abscess in her throat and an infection that spread to her tonsils.
Tyra Banks bid an emotional goodbye to Jeannie on Monday’s show, breaking into tears as she wished her a swift recovery.
Now, Jeannie has posted an update on her Instagram page, uploading a picture of herself from her hospital bed and speaking out after being forced to leave the show.
‘I would never imagine ever having to write this, but I made it safely out of my emergency surgery,’ Jeannie wrote.
‘I will be forever grateful to Dr. Nasseri who identified my potentially life-threatening condition. What simply started as a sore throat had unbeknownst to me become a dangerous infection that already closed at least 60% of my airway and resulted in a throat abscess that spread in a matter of three days.’
Jeannie also revealed she was ‘devastated’ that her journey on the show was over, writing: ‘Dancing on this show has been the most exhilarating adventure. I’ve gained both beautiful friendships and loving supporters.’
There was also a message for her professional partner Brandon Armstrong, saying she would ‘cherish’ their time dancing together.
‘I’m sorry you don’t get to make fun of my moves anymore while I share my life gems on how to be a grown up Love u so much lil bro, and will ALWAYS cherish the memories we made!!!’ she wrote.
While she didn’t dance on Monday’s show, Jeannie made an appearance from her hospital bed.
Host Tyra was full of praise for the stylist, praising the star’s ‘love and passion’ for Dancing With the Stars and telling her she was ‘still a part of this family until the final episode of this season.’
Dancing With The Stars airs on ABC in the US.
