Line of Duty season six is back on BBC One tonight (March 28) and viewers are still suspicious of DCI Joanne Davidson (played by Kelly MacDonald). In the first episode, she found out how CHIS (Covert Human Intelligence Source) had identified a suspect in Gail Vella’a (Andi Osho) murder case. But fans think Davidson knows more than she is letting on and it has been suggested she will target Ian Buckells (Nigel Boyle).
Does Joanne Davidson kill Ian Buckells to gain control?
Line of Duty season six returned with a bang and there is already plenty of speculation surrounding the new detective.
Fans were shocked when Davidson halted a pursuit to deal with an armed robbery at a local shop.
They believe she may know more than she is sharing about her latest investigation regarding Gail Vella.
Some have suggested she knew the investigative journalist as a former lover.
One viewer said Jo may end up killing Detective Superintendent Ian Buckells so she can pull the strings in the investigation.
Ahead of the second episode, the fan said on Reddit: “There are multiple photos that indicate Jo replaces as acting superintendent.
“In the S6 EP2 trailer, we see Jo, Kate and Chris find a body with a very concerned looking face as the pathologist looks at it.
“Could this be Buckells and Jo killed him so she can take official control of the investigation?”
One fan responded: “I b***** hope so mate because the theories about him on Facebook are doing my nut in.”
Others are not convinced Davidson would hurt Buckells, but they hope the detective gets his comeuppance soon.
Another said: “I don’t think so but I do hope he gets shot in the head at some point as he’s so annoying.”
In the first episode, Davidson was shut down by Buckells when she appealed to him about Detective Sergeant Marks (Kwaku Fortune).
Marks had refused to uncover the identity of the CHIS and Buckells had agreed.
Davidson was later upset at Buckells’s outburst when he realised he was under pressure from the Chief Constable to find information.
There is a chance Davidson will take Buckells out of the picture so she can get the information she needs.

Buckells and Davidson have had plenty of private Operation Lighthouse conversations which have raised suspicion.
Buckells confronted Steve Arnott (Martin Compston) in the second episode as he had gained authority to investigate the operation.
Davidson then came out to taunt Arnott as she had permission from the DCC to without Operation Lighthouse information. Kate Fleming (Vicky McClure) had been the one to tip her off about AC-12’s involvement.
At this moment in time, it is unclear whether Davidson is working with Buckells or against him.
In the second episode, Davidson was questioned in a formal interview regarding potential misconduct during Operation Lighthouse.
She was interrogated over her decision to attend the van outside the shop where an armed robbery was taking place.
Meanwhile, fans are still convinced Buckells may be H and they took to Twitter to share their thoughts.
One said: “No comment?! Buckells is DEFO dodgy. Throw him under the bus, love. #LineofDuty”
