Love Island returned to ITV2 last night and viewers tuned in to see the aftermath of the Casa Amor – Main Villa split as the original contestants got to know the new girls and boys.
As night fell, several chose to couple up with a newbie and share a bed, but others decided it would be more respectful to their partner to sleep alone outside. And one of the boys was Michael, who joined Curtis Pritchard and Tommy Fury outside on the day beds in the Main Villa.
While those watching at home were happy to see Michael turn down a new girl’s offer of sharing a bed out of respect for Amber,a conversation the firefighter had the following day with newcomer Joanna Chimonides suggested he was reconsidering his couple.
Joining Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby on This Morning earlier today was recently dumped Islander Tom Walker who elaborated on Michael’s doubts.
“It surprises us as viewers watching it because ‘oh my gosh we didn’t even know there was a hint of a crack’” Holly began. “And suddenly they’re appearing everywhere.
“When you’re in there can you see Curtis possibly is thinking he’s a bit trapped in this relationship [with Amy Hart]? Can you see Jordan [Hames] was perhaps going to go for somebody else?”
“Not Curtis, I didn’t see Curtis swaying,” Tom replied confidently. “Jordan it was still early days for him and Anna [Vakili].”
Holly continued to probe: “What about Michael and Amber?”
“Me and Michael had had a chat actually and he did feel like Amber put him down a little bit,” Tom explained.
“He was biting his tongue with her just to save an argument. He stayed to realise this and he kind of said ‘maybe she’s not my perfect girl.’”
Michael has been coupled up with Amber since the second recoupling at the end of week one of the reality dating show.
Fans have seen the couple go from strength to strength, with only a few arguments along the way.
Nevertheless, with the arrival of twelve new single Islanders, their relationship is going to be put to the test.
Especially after the conversation Michael had wth Danny Williams and Tommy on the beanbags yesterday. He said: “I think this happening now has come at a weird time. Little things me and Amber have spoken about…”
Danny then asked if Michael thinks he and the Geordie beautician had the same maturity levels and he replied quickly: “No. I take a lot more on the chin and squash things so there isn’t an issue.
Will Michael stick or split with Amber?
“It goes back to the whole age thing; it’s making me realise things that I’ve been brushing off. I think to myself, my last relationship was a little bit like that, where I’d stop saying things how it is, I’d bite my tongue just so there’s no issues,” he continued.
Afterwards, Michael visited the Beach Hut and added: “The new girls coming in has made me realise situations I’ve overlooked with Amber. Things I wouldn’t really stand for that I have.
“It’s made me realise I did go into a bit of a shell over the past week and I wasn’t really acting myself, justing acting a bit out of character. So this has come at a good time to help me clear things up in my head.”
Joanna then pulled him for a chat and the pair of them discussed him being in a couple with Amber and he explicitly said he was willing to get to know Joanna and even hinted at sharing a bed with her and “having a good sleepover later”.
With Casa Amor comes a whole new recoupling twist, where the original Islanders have to decide to stick in their couples or split and choose and newcomer to partner with. Will Michael’s head be turned by Joanna and will this mean Amber will be going home?
Love Island airs every night at 9pm on ITV.
