Joaquin Phoenix turned up at the Oscars last night in the same suit he wore to the 2020 event – making good on a promise he made.
Phoenix donned the same black tuxedo with a white button shirt and bow tie in an effort to reduce waste. He pledged to wear the Stella McCartney tux for the entire awards season last year and it appears he is continuing the pledge in 2021.
In his work promoting sustainability, Phoenix joined Farm Sanctuary after winning his first Academy Award last year and later helped free a calf and her mother from a Los Angeles slaughterhouse. He was arrested in January 2020 during Jane Fonda’s climate change protest right after his Golden Globes win.

Major banks and investors that finance fossil fuel exploration were the focus of the protest.
“I think that we’ve become very disconnected from the natural world,” Phoenix said during his acceptance speech for best actor in “Joker.” “And many of us, what we’re guilty of is an egocentric world view: The belief that we’re the center of the universe. We go into the natural world and we plunder it for its resources. We feel entitled to artificially inseminate a cow and when she gives birth, we steal her baby, even though her cries of anguish are unmistakable. And then we take her milk that’s intended for her calf and we put it in our coffee and our cereal.”

Was Chadwick Boseman snubbed?: It was thrilling to see diversity in this year’s Oscar winners. The finale ruined it.
“This man is a winner… wearing custom Stella because he chooses to make choices for the future of the planet,” McCartney tweeted in 2020.
