Every character on Schitt’s Creek is as hilarious as they are unique. Dan Levy’s series sparks joy and laughter into our lives, and it’s all thanks to the characters he’s written. Many of us feel as though The RoseBud Motel is a home away from home, and we keep revisiting the series to spend more time with these characters.
So, who’s Dan Levy’s favorite person to write for on the show? Keep reading to find out!
Moira, Johnny, David, and Alexis all bring something to the unique to ‘Schitt’s Creek’
Every single person on Schitt’s Creek stands out in their own unique way. David is as funny as he is relatable because he detests human interaction. Moira is fascinating to watch with her exaggerated need for attention and her outlandish collection of wigs. Johnny is impossible not to love, considering his his positive outlook on the direst situations.
And Alexis is the party girl with a heart of gold, who wears her highest pair of heels to a community service job. Each member of The Rose Family is iconic in their own right. The supporting cast is just as lovable as well, be it Stevie, Patrick, or Jocelyn. Heck, even Roland is impossible not to love!
With that being said, who was Levy’s favorite character to write for on Schitt’s Creek?
‘Ew, David!’ ‘I love that journey for me’
“Hide your diamonds, hide your ex’s… I’m a little bit Alexis.”
Levy reveals in a Variety interview that his favorite character to write for is Alexis Rose.
In the interview, the cast of Schitt’s Creek plays a game of “How well do you know your co-star?” During the game, the actors have to guess who Levy’s favorite character is to write for. Eugene Levy guesses David. Catherine O’Hara guesses Moira. Annie Murphy guesses, “Obvs Alexis.” It turns out, Murphy guesses right!
Levy explains his answer, saying,
“What came most naturally to me was Alexis. The stories, the backstories, the celebrity sightings, the hookups… were all my own life stories,” he jokes. “And I just gave them to the character.”
Annie Murphy wrote “A Little Bit Alexis” with her husband
Alexis is an extremely lovable character. Yet despite how much we adore her, it is safe to admit that she can be taught a lesson or two on humility. What further proves this point is her amazingly awful song, “A Little Bit Alexis,” which she performs for her Cabaret audition. In an interview with CBS Music, Murphy confesses, “The number of days I have woken up with the song in my head is slowly driving me insane… But I think it also bodes well.”
In the interview, she reveals that she wrote the song with her musician husband, Menno Versteeg. The song is a spoof of “early 2000s socialite pop singles.” When writing the song, Murphy kept her character’s shortcomings in mind. She tells CBS Music, Alexis is a character who has “zero talent when it comes to singing and dancing” and “the confidence of a thousand humans.”
