Spoilers: All you need to know about Hollyoaks' killer 25th anniversary week

Hollyoaks has something of a penchant for going large in the month of October, but this October promises to be a very special one, as the serial drama celebrates its 25th anniversary.

Being on the air for 25 years is certainly something to celebrate, and therefore the Channel 4 soap is going all out to mark the milestone — with a week of events that will no doubt alter the village as we know it.

The McQueen clan, arguably the soap’s most iconic, are at the centre of the huge week, as they find themselves blackmailed by a mystery assailant — one who promises to expose all of their deepest darkest secrets.

Meanwhile, original character Kurt Benson (Jeremy Edwards) makes a shocking return to the eponymous village in spite of the fact that he’s, you know, dead.

If you’re desperate to find out more about Hollyoaks’ impending 25th anniversary, then fear not, as we’ve got everything you need to know right here!

NOTE: Episode dates are for E4 airings.

Thursday October 15

Nana McQueen (Diane Langton) summons Mercedes (Jennifer Metcalfe) and Theresa (Jorgie Porter) to The Dog, and upon their arrival in the pub, the two women are confronted with a macabre doll.

The doll reads aloud the seven deadly sins — one for each McQueen —explaining that if they don’t pay for their crimes, then each of their biggest secrets will be revealed, and they’ll therefore go to jail!

The first sin is, of course, ‘wrath’, and thus the race is on to figure out who it belongs to.

Meanwhile, Verity Hutchinson (Eva O’Hara) represents Diane (Alex Fletcher) in her divorce from Tony (Nick Pickard), but Edward (Joe McGann) wastes little time in manipulating his daughter, as he encourages her to play hard ball!

Victor Brothers (Benjamin O’Mahony) demands that Juliet Nightingale recruit more dealers, and suggests that she get Ella Richardson (Erin Palmer) on board, and Tom Cunningham (Ellis Hollins) discusses his future with Yazz Maalik (Haeisha Mistry).

Monday October 19

Sylver (David Tag) believes that ‘wrath’ is in relation to him having killed Breda (Moya Brady), but he’s desperate not to go back to prison, so Mercedes has a word with James Nightingale (Gregory Finnegan).

However, in spite of James transferring the money to pay off the blackmailer, PC George Kiss (Callum Kerr) arrives and arrests Sylver for Breda’s murder!

Diane wants to take divorce proceedings slowly, but Edward pushes for Tony to speed things up, resulting in heartbreaking scenes as he removes his wedding ring.

Juliet successfully traps Ella by blackmailing her with a video she recorded of the young girl handling drugs, and Yazz is determined to rescue her relationship.

Tuesday October 20

Tony receives a message from ‘the love of his life’ and thus he racks his brains in an effort to find out who it is from. In spite of Darren Osborne (Ashley Taylor Dawson) suggesting some of his exes, the legend is hoping it’s from Diane, as she is truly the love of his life.

Meanwhile, the devilish doll asks the McQueens to guess who their blackmailer is, warning that the consequences will be severe if their answer is incorrect.

Elsewhere, there’s an attraction between Theresa and her ex Joel Dexter (Rory Douglas-Speed), and Sid Sumner (Billy Price) is appalled that Juliet has recruited Ella.

Wednesday October 21

In the special anniversary episode, Tony decides to cancel his date with the mystery admirer, as a motorbike roars into the village.

As Tony works in The Hutch, the motorbike man enters the premises and removes his helmet — it’s Kurt! But how is he alive, and who died in the ski accident?

Meanwhile, the McQueen clan attempt to work out who is blackmailing them, but Mercedes refuses to blackmailed and heads to meet up with the assailant in her signature red dress.

However, as she and her family party the night away in The Dog, who is watching them?

Darren brings Tom to the centre of the village, where Yazz reveals her romantic gesture for her beau: a video message from all of the residents of the village. Afterwards, she proposes!

Friday October 23

Viewers have had the opportunity to reflect on some off Hollyoaks’ finest outings from years gone by over the past couple of months.

Yes, Hollyoaks Favourites and [email protected] kept us entertained while the soap was off the air during lockdown, and now Friday Favourites are keeping the Friday slot warm.

Given that it’s Hollyoaks birthday, it’s only fitting that fans can reflect on the soap’s beginnings, and therefore this week’s Favourite is none other than the serial drama’s very first episode!

The episode in question — first transmitted in 1995 — introduces us to Tony, Kurt Benson and Jambo (Will Mellor). An exploding car and a police chase also welcome us into the life, but brighter world of the Chester suburb.

Teen heartthrob, Kurt has been chasing after Natasha for weeks – quite literally on the back of his iconic motorbike. With best friends Tony and Jambo by his side, he manages to get into her friend’s party, but ends up racing to the girls’ rescue.

Hollyoaks’ 25th anniversary kicks off on Thursday October 15 at 7pm on E4.
