It’s becoming clear that David Metcalfe (Matthew Wolfenden) is having money worries on Emmerdale. The village shop that bears his name isn’t doing as well as he would like and money is getting tight.
He can’t bring himself to confide in partner Victoria (Isabel Hodgins) about the problem, either, as he’s hoping they’ll be getting married soon and weddings cost money, and he’s too proud to admit he’s struggling.
In upcoming episodes he raises the difficult subject with his father Pollard (Chris Chittell). He says that the pandemic had a huge impact on his business when he was forced to close during the lockdown and things still haven’t recovered. Will Pollard help him out?
Realising that he has to make some savings anyway, David decides he’s going to have to sack a staff member, and Kerry (Laura Norton) is the one who’ll have to go. He makes a terrible job of telling her – and Kerry’s devastated to hear that she’s now without a job.
Will sacking Kerry be the solution to David’s problems? Or has he just caused a lot more trouble for himself?
