Strictlys Jayde Adams says pairing with pro Karen feels natural after dancing with sister

Strictly Come Dancing's Jayde Adams has said that being paired in a same-sex couple with pro Karen Hauer "feels natural" and that it is about a "sisterhood".

During Friday's launch show, the comedian, 37, was paired with pro Karen, 40, as the celebrities found out their pairings.

Talking about being the BBC One show's second same-sex pairing after Richie Anderson was paired with Giovanni Pernice, Jayde told OK! and other press: "I think my partnership with Karen is more about sisterhood and if you're in the dance world, which I was as a child, the sort of all-girl and all-male partnerships is quite commonplace.

"Obviously, it's a new thing in these dance shows. You know, the one that's in Australia and the one that's in America, but I think the world is changing and to me it just doesn't seem like anything that is abnormal. It seems like a completely natural thing."

Jayde added: "To be honest with you, if I was in a male partnership, show me one of the lads that's lifting me? I'm now gonna be able to throw Karen Hauer around that dance floor. She's going over my head, I don't care. I cannot wait to lift her!"

The comedian, whose late sister Jenna tragically died from a brain tumour 11 years ago at the age of just 28, also said that the last time she danced was with her sibling.

Jayde said: "When I danced with my sister, I was the base and I used to lift her all the time. And actually, the last time I danced was actually with my sister. So this felt really natural for me."

Hosted by Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman, the Strictly launch show on Friday saw 15 celebrities paired with their new professional partners take to the floor for the first time in a huge group number.

While dusting off their paddles were returning judges Shirley Ballas, Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse and Anton Du Beke.

The launch show also featured two incredible routines from the Strictly professionals, the return of reigning champion Rose Ayling-Ellis and a spectacular music performance from John Legend.

And viewers won't have to wait long for the next Strictly instalment as the first 2022 live show will take place at 6:45pm on Saturday 24 September on BBC One.
