On Sunday night’s Strictly Come Dancing, Tom Fletcher and Amy Dowden were eliminated from the BBC competition after landing in the bottom two with Rhys Stephenson and his dance partner Nancy Xu. However, viewers were left outraged by the result, with many claiming the BBC show is a “fix” after Tilly Ramsay escaped being eliminated despite receiving her highest score of the series on Saturday night.

During Sunday’s show, both couples had to perform their routines again.

Rhys and his partner Nancy performed their Jive to Footloose from Footloose.

Before Tom and Amy danced their Couple’s Choice to On My Own from Les Misérables.

After both couples had danced a second time, the judges delivered their verdicts.

Cynthia Erivo, Motsi Mabuse and Anton du Beke all chose to save Rhys and Nancy, while head judge Shirley Ballas voted to save Tom and Amy.

With three votes to Rhys and Nancy, it meant they had won the majority vote, and Tom and Amy would be leaving the competition.

Speaking about her decision to save Rhys, Cynthia said: “This was really tough, I think both couples did such a beautiful job, but there was just an edge in this couple’s dance.

“I really enjoyed it, thank you both for doing what you did, but Rhys and Nancy I choose you.”

Motsi continued: “Well I think this was so tough, I mean the toughest I have seen since I’ve been here.

“But there was a clear fighter. I did feel that Rhys and Nancy just put on another extra level so I’m going to save Rhys and Nancy.”

While Anton added: “I agree with the other judges, it was an outstanding dance-off.

“On Saturday night Rhys made a slight mistake and Tom didn’t really fulfil his potential in the dance. Tonight, both couples danced exquisitely but just a very slight edge goes to Rhys and Nancy.”

Viewers were left outraged by the elimination results, and many took to social media to share their frustration.

Some viewers claimed Gordon Ramsay’s daughter is being “set up to win” the competition after being saved from elimination.

Becca wrote: “Baffled. Who is voting for Tilly & Nikita?? They were so overmarked this week.”

Nick tweeted: “Transfer votes from Tom are going purely to Dan and Tilly aren’t they?”

While user @LFVSarge raged: “Disgraceful judging tonight. Both Tom and Rhys are better dancers than Tilly and the judges have misled the TV audience. Obviously, the wrong couples were in the dance-off.”

“I’m so SICK of whoever keeps voting for Dan and Tilly #strictly,” Dave commented.

Subo said: “I’m actually fuming right now. Should’ve been Dan or Tilly. One of them should’ve gone home.”

As Debbie penned: “Can’t be the only one who thinks it feels like Tilly is being set up to win. Creating a whole “journey” narrative and hyper-focusing on her family/personal life. Nothing against her personally it just seems sus from the producers pov #Strictly.” (sic)

Strictly Come Dancing returns on Saturday at 6.55pm on BBC One.
