Time's up for Denise as the bells tolls on big death in new EastEnders trailer

Afterwards, we cut to a montage of the five other Walford women involved in the storyline. ‘For whom the bell tolls’, read a tweet posted on the BBC One soap’s official Twitter account, which shared the trailer.

But just what does it all mean?

Denise, as viewers know, joined Linda Carter (Kellie Bright), Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean), Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth), Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner) and Suki Panesar (Balvinder Sopal) for a lock-in in February.

As the night came to a close, the ladies in question toasted their final beverage to all the men who have upset and hurt them over the years, hoping that they would one day get what they deserve.

The six aforementioned women were then seen in a flash-forward sequence, set at Christmas time, standing over the corpse of a dead man on the floor of the pub, with Sharon – seemingly on the day of her own wedding – checking the pulse of the unfortunate resident.

The spectacular episode concluded with the confirmation of death, as the six women processed what had transpired.

Denise was standing over the victim with a smashed bottle in her hand, leading viewers to speculate that she is the one who carries out the attack. With the character having now got her own trailer, could this be confirmation that this is the case after all?

Or is it simply because Denise’s storyline reached a dramatic peak at the time of this trailer dropping? Her affair with Ravi Gulati (Aaron Thiara) was exposed in shocking scenes, with husband Jack Branning (Scott Maslen) taking action, so could one of these men prove to be the unfortunate victim at Christmas time?

Or can we expect the other five Walford women to get their own trailers too? Perhaps at a time when their respective storylines are in focus?

If you look closely at the shot of Bridge Street in the trailer, you can even see a figure that, upon further inspection, resembles Suki Panesar, making a run for it. Is she in cahoots with Denise? Or perhaps Denise comes to her defence and murders abusive Nish (Navin Chowdhry)?

Only time will tell, but it’s safe to say that everyone is talking about EastEnders again and, given how compelling the show is right now, who could blame them?

EastEnders airs Mondays to Thursdays at 7:30pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
