Viewers of E4's Celebs Go Dating were left cringing as This Morning 's Vanessa Feltz used her phone whilst on a date, and then walking out, leaving him left with their full plates of food.

The 61 year old TV star, who announced her split from her fiancé Ben Ofoedu in February, went on a dinner date with a fishmonger named Richard, which was seen on Wednesday night's show.

Vanessa seemed distinctly unimpressed with her date from the off, as he asked her what she does for a living – and when told about her radio show and career history, he asked her: "Oh, so you're a proper journalist then?"

The pair ordered their food – halibut and triple cooked chips – but it seemed that Vanessa had already checked out, as she sat on her phone and all but ignored Richard's attempts at conversation.

Suddenly, with their full plates in front of them, Vanessa said to Richard: "Anyway, I'm very grateful to you for coming all the way down. It was really nice of you."

As Richard said: "No problem," Vanessa replied: "Thank you so much and have a safe journey home. Very best wishes," as she shook his hand.

She then slung her bag over her shoulder and unceremoniously left the restaurant, leaving a very bemused Richard sat on his own with the table of food.

He then looked around and asked: "Can I finish eating?"

Outside, Vanessa spoke about the lack of connection between the pair, but viewers of the show stormed to Twitter to slam her actions as 'appalling'.

One person tweeted: "#CelebsGoDating #VanessaFeltz appalling treatment of both dates so far. Scrolling through a mobile at the dinner table while someone's talking to you is poor show."

A second fumed: "I have always liked Vanessa but that was cruel. He may not have been the man for her but it was nasty to leave half way through the meal."

"Poor thing. Hope he's okay. #celebsgodating," tweeted a third.

A fourth said: "poor man #celebsgodating."

Meanwhile on Wednesday night's show, Vanessa's Celebs Go Dating co-star, Adam Collard, left the relationship experts unimpressed with a cheeky revelation.

The former Love Island lothario admitted to sleeping with fellow celeb, Lottie Moss, before they'd even been on a date with the non-celebs.

He told them: "One thing led to another after a couple of drinks and we ended up hooking up," leaving the experts shocked.

Dating agent Anna Williamson said: "Never have we ever had this happen before we've even sent a celeb on a date. It's like a rat up a drainpipe."
