A former CITV presenter has shared the saucy details of what unfolded in her dressing room while she worked on the children’s channel.

From 1998 until 2001, Danielle Nicholls was as a presenter on CITV, first starting her career when she was just 19 and working alongside Stephen Mulhern and Holly Willoughby.

During her time there she also interviewed the likes of Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake and Victoria Beckham.

However, the now 44-year-old has revealed that during her time on the show, she was a little bit ‘cheeky’ backstage.

Recalling her naughtiest memories from behind-the-scenes while reflecting during her time on the show, Danielle hasn’t held back.

‘I remember when I was only 19 years old and on CITV I snogged a pop star in the dressing room,’ she revealed.

‘It was quite cheeky, but I did even more than that with a footballer.

‘The good news there is that I ended up marrying him, so that was okay!’ she added when speaking to The Daily Star.

Danielle married former footballer and Charlton Athletic manager Dean Holden in June 2006.

Discussing ITV’s decision to close CITV next month, Danielle expressed her disappointment and said it would affect the opportunities available for aspiring presenters, as well as the ability to discover new talent.

‘It’s really sad they’re taking children’s television away.

‘There are all these really famous presenters that came from it, Ant and Dec, Cat Deeley, Andi Peters.

‘I think it’ll have a knock on effect in television in general. Kids TV is where you learn your trade, it’s where you learn the business and you have natural progression.’

Before its launch as an exclusive channel in 2006, CITV was previously used to broadcast afternoon shows for children, and was first launched back 1983.

While originally home to iconic shows such as Jungle Run, The Worst Witch and Art Attack, ITV has now moved all its children’s streaming platform ITVX Kids, which launched last month.

Explaining the decision, ITV bosses said the average amount of broadcast TV minutes of kids TV channels watched by four to 15-year-old’s per week had declined by 62 per cent since 2019, while viewing services on streaming figures had risen by 30 per cent in the same period.

While the platform will feature both brand new shows, as well as old favourites like Bob the Builder and Mr Bean, ITV will continue to feature the LittleBe preschool segment and will offer some children’s content in the early mornings on ITV2 from September.

Although there were some interesting scenes playing out away from the cameras, Danielle previously claimed she was made to wear a minimiser bra after viewers complained about her breasts when on CITV.

Earlier this year she spoke about complaints that were submitted, saying that while she ‘only had a D-cup, I was a size eight, so it was a problem’ and she had to wear the bra because at the time it ‘wasn’t trendy to have a big bust at all’.

After CITV, Danielle went on to star on TV programmes including Diggit, Night Fiver and The Unprofessionals.
