A PHD student’s grisly discovery on the side of a pavement at the University of Hull has split opinion… because no one can work out what actually it is.

Russell Gilbert, 41, made the discovery last week while walking to one of his professional wrestling promotion seminars.

The odd-coloured tube measures about six inches long and looks slimy to the touch.

It appears to have been crinkled and twisted – whether by design or nature and emitted no odour, he told MailOnline.

Russell said: ‘It looked disgusting. I’m gonna go on the nice side and say, it’s like, maybe like a melted ice Coca Cola lolly.’

The crinkly find had Russell vexed as neither he nor his friends had any idea what it could be

‘But somebody did notice there was a feather on it and it did look like of a body part.

‘Well, not human body-ish, but some sort of body tissue.

‘Essentially, it looks like something that could have once been alive.’

Russell left the discovery on the floor as he didn’t want to risk touching it

So perplexed and revolted by the discovery was Russell, he immediately took to Facebook to debate the nature of his fleshy prize with his friends.

Russell continued: ‘I put it on my Facebook page and just went, what do people think this is.

‘And there were lots of different suggestions.’

First there was the sensible.

‘It could be a chewed rawhide strip a dog has left?’, one said.

‘Looks like part of a snake to me. Think the feathers will be from the birds feasting on it’, said another.

Other people were less constructive with their feedback and said it looked like a ‘dog ate a condom.’

Another said the depressing scrap of matter looked like ‘the remains of their childhood ambitions.’

One said, rather grotesquely: ‘Twisted and slightly melted cola ice pop? That or a very ugly willy!’
