Strictly's oldest ever contestant Angela Rippon has revealed the secret to her age-defying dance moves – freezing ice baths.

The 78-year-old presenter is enjoying regular cryotherapy chambers where temperatures drop to an incredible -120 degrees below freezing. History-making Angela said: “I have one if not two cryo chambers a week followed by a deep tissue massage. I swear by them.

“I stand in them at 120 degrees below freezing for three minutes and it is so relaxing I can’t tell you. I love it.” Former Come Dancing host Angela has stunned viewers with her leg kicks, splits and flexibility. She is the only female celebrity who isn’t suffering from injury, blisters and niggles.

The leggy Rip Off Britain host said: “I’ve put my body maintenance very high up as a priority. I am not daft.

“I will be 79 next week and while my head is saying you are having a lovely time Ange, my body is saying what the hell do you think you are doing to me.

“Kai is very good at partner maintenance too, giving me the odd leg rub.” Angela is more than twice the average age of her celebrity competition. At the start of the series she was even worried about having to run up the stairs post performance to get her scores from Claudia Winkleman.

She joked: “One of the highlights is being able to run up the steps. I don’t know if it’s the adrenaline but I wasn’t sure I would be able to get to the top.” But despite inspiring millions of OAP’s across the country Angela wants viewers to judge her solely on her dance skills.

She said: “I don’t think of my age as a disadvantage because I don’t think of my age full stop. “In my head I have felt 30-years-old for the last 40-years. The former news reader is hoping to give tonight’s eviction the cold shoulder for at least one more week.

Adding: “Next week is my 79th birthday so to still be in the show would be the perfect present.” Cryotherapy chambers like ice baths are used regularly by professional athletes to aid their recovery. They are also reported to aid chronic pain, insomnia, depression, and rheumatoid arthritis
